On the first and second days of the Lunar New Year, nearly 20 children from disadvantaged backgrounds celebrated the holiday together at the No. 1 Social Work and Social Protection Center of the province. Without the noise and excitement, or dazzling fireworks, the children participated in simple yet heartwarming group games, filled with joy.

The difference from normal days is that the winners of each game receive candy or lucky red envelopes. These activities somewhat alleviate the disadvantages that the children are facing.

Twelve-year-old Sung Thi Phuong Linh, currently being cared for at the No. 1 Social Work and Social Protection Center of the province, emotionally shared: "Although I can't be with my family like many other children in my class, here, I receive care from the staff, and I get to play with the older children and my friends. I feel very happy."

Besides the laughter of children, the Lunar New Year celebrations at the center are also an opportunity for 50 elderly people living alone to gather around a chessboard or sit together and reminisce about old New Year stories.
Ms. Hoang Thi Cao, who has been associated with the center for 8 years, shared: “This is the 8th Tet (Lunar New Year) I've celebrated here. The atmosphere is always joyful and warm, like a family; everyone loves and supports each other. The staff take very good care of us, making sure no one lacks anything.”

Sharing about the efforts to care for those under her care during Tet (Lunar New Year), Ms. Cu Thi Kim Chung, an officer at the No. 1 Social Work and Social Protection Center of Lao Cai province, said: “To ensure that children with special difficulties and lonely elderly people have a fulfilling Tet, in addition to making thorough preparations in terms of material things, we also organize many recreational activities to bring people together and create a warm, loving atmosphere for these less fortunate individuals.”
The Tet atmosphere at the No. 1 Social Work and Social Protection Center in Lao Cai province was simple yet warm and cozy. The red envelopes and small gifts given during each game were vivid evidence of the responsibility, dedication, and love of the social workers during this festive Tet celebration.
