Tet, or Lunar New Year, is a sacred time for family reunions and a journey home after a long, busy year. However, for many workers, the journey back to their hometowns remains unfulfilled. Left behind in the bustling city, filled with the vibrant colors of spring, they silently pour their homesickness into each shift. It is in this quiet moment of longing for home that the caring and sharing in Ho Chi Minh City warm their hearts, ensuring that Tet in a foreign land still retains the warmth of spring.

These heartfelt gifts were handed directly to migrant workers far from home, helping to alleviate their homesickness and bring a warm Tet atmosphere to their rented rooms.

Far from her hometown of Dak Lak , in a small rented room in Phu Loi ward, without any relatives nearby, Tra My and her 8-month-old daughter have found relief from their worries, knowing that there are always loving hands ready to support them.

Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Tra My, a worker at Nhu Phu Transport Services Co., Ltd. in Ho Chi Minh City, shared: "My landlord reduced my rent and helped with the paperwork for my child's school application. Although I'm far from home for Tet, I feel happier and warmer because of the kindness of everyone around me."

Sharing a similar situation, Ms. Loc's family hasn't returned to their hometown for Tet (Lunar New Year) for many years because their two young children are still in school, and her husband works as a driver, often away from home. The burden of making a living makes the dream of a family reunion seem distant.

Transforming rented rooms into warm homes, turning the city into a second home through activities that provide heartfelt Tet celebrations for workers.

But amidst the spring days, such acts of kindness have somewhat eased the homesickness. These Tet gifts and heartfelt greetings are not only material support but also a form of shelter, allowing workers like Ms. Loc to always feel the compassion and kindness within this city.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Nga, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Phu Loi Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, shared: "The ward has many migrant workers, so the local authorities encourage landlords to organize activities to celebrate the Lunar New Year together, hold union meals, and visit and give Tet gifts to help alleviate homesickness and ensure a joyful Tet holiday."

Spending Tet away from home may mean missing out on family reunions, but it's not without sincerity and sharing. That's also how Ho Chi Minh City retains its workers through responsibility, respect, and a Tet filled with love.

Ms. Nguyen Kim Loan, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Federation of Labor, said: "Besides activities to care for migrant workers, the City Federation of Labor organizes visits and gift-giving to workers who stay in Ho Chi Minh City for Tet (Lunar New Year), and also coordinates with businesses and landlords to organize many cultural and artistic activities, creating a meaningful, warm, and affectionate atmosphere for the spring festival."

Tet is a time for family reunions, but for many workers in Ho Chi Minh City, the demands of making a living mean they have to celebrate Tet away from their families.

The close attention from local authorities is a great source of encouragement for workers who remain in Ho Chi Minh City during the Lunar New Year holiday.

In a civilized and compassionate city, the sharing from the government, organizations, and the community has warmed the hearts of those celebrating Tet away from home with everyday care. Because Ho Chi Minh City cherishes the silent contributions of its workers, considering them an integral part of the city's development today, for those working far from home, Ho Chi Minh City will become their second home, a livable city, a city of compassion.
