Advanced technology
The agreement was signed at Hyundai Rotem's headquarters in Seoul, South Korea, between Mr. Lee Yong-bae, General Director of Hyundai Rotem, and Mr. Tran Ba Duong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of THACO, at a time when Vietnam is implementing its railway industry development strategy along with a plan to build a robust railway network in Vietnam.
According to the signed agreement, Hyundai Rotem will transfer the most advanced technologies in the railway industry to THACO to organize the domestic production of urban trams and high-speed trains under the THACO brand.
Hyundai Rotem also collaborated in building an integrated system from rolling stock to signaling and other E&M items in a synchronized manner, helping THACO gradually master the entire technology chain, from production - operational management - maintenance, repair and servicing, optimizing costs and meeting international standards.
THACO will invest in the construction of a railway industrial complex including a locomotive and rolling stock manufacturing area, a closed-loop test track system, and a modern major repair center in the 786-hectare Mechanical and Supporting Industries Industrial Park in Binh Co Ward, Ho Chi Minh City.

Journey of Cooperation
Previously, from June 19th to 20th, 2025, the THACO leadership delegation visited and worked with Hyundai Rotem, attended the Railway Exhibition at the Bexco Center, and toured Hyundai Rotem's manufacturing plant.

On August 12, 2025, the two sides signed and exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation at the Vietnam-Korea Economic Forum, in the presence of General Secretary To Lam and high-ranking leaders of both countries.

From September 9th to 11th, 2025, CEO Lee Yong-bae and a delegation of Hyundai Rotem leaders visited and worked in Vietnam.
Here, Hyundai Rotem and THACO met with Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Truong Thanh Hoai, and Deputy Minister of Finance Tran Quoc Phuong to report on their cooperation program for the development of high-speed rail and urban rail.
In addition, both sides presented technologies and cooperation plans in the field of urban railways to the then Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee, Mr. Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, and the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc.

On the morning of December 4, 2025, the THACO leadership team also surveyed the Shinbundang Metro line, one of the lines applying fully automated operation technology (GoA4), driverless, with all operations controlled by an intelligent system operating 24/7 with almost absolute accuracy.
The delegation also visited the maintenance and repair center at the DXLine Depot to learn about the maintenance model, technical procedures, and modern operational and maintenance solutions that Hyundai Rotem is applying in South Korea.
