According to the People's Committee of Cho Ra commune, at around 8:00 a.m. on November 10, at Pac Nghe village, the section passing through Km30+400, Provincial Road 258, a landslide occurred on the positive slope. The estimated volume of the landslide was about 30,000m 3 .
The landslide caused the houses and walls of 5 households to collapse, including: Duong Dang Van, Ma Thi Hue, Nong Thi Huan, Hoang Van Phat, and Duong Dang Tu.
In particular, Mr. Duong Dang Tu's house is under construction with funding to support temporary housing demolition, and is currently just about to be completed.
The total number of people affected by the landslide is 19. Currently, all the houses of the above households are no longer safe to live in.
In addition, households on the opposite side, located on the negative slope of Provincial Road 358, including La Duong Khoan, La Duong Thai and La Duong Vinh, are also at risk of being affected if landslides continue to occur.
The Commune Military Command mobilized local forces, along with the police and local people, to urgently evacuate people and property of households to a safe place; and cordoned off the landslide area to avoid damage.
Police and militia forces are on duty in the area to promptly handle any arising situations.
According to Chairman of the People's Committee of Cho Ra Commune, Trieu Anh Chu, the initial cause of the landslide was determined to be the impact of recent storms and rains combined with the high slope terrain, leading to a large landslide.
If the landslide continues, a large amount of soil and rock will flow onto Provincial Road 258, potentially causing a road “break” and local congestion. Handling this landslide is expected to be very costly and time-consuming due to the large volume of the landslide.
The People's Committee of Cho Ra commune has requested the Department of Natural Disaster Prevention, Control and Irrigation of Thai Nguyen province to advise competent authorities to assess the volume and level of impact for handling.
At the same time, consider arranging resettlement areas for affected households to stabilize their lives long term.
Landslides and rockfalls are a frequent phenomenon in the northern communes of Thai Nguyen province during the rainy and stormy season.
Previously, on October 9, Cho Ra commune also had to urgently evacuate 3 households in Na Mo village, section Km31+980, on provincial road 258 due to landslides from the positive slope.
Not only threatening residential areas, landslides also affect and threaten traffic infrastructure. Especially when in the northern communes of Thai Nguyen, there are currently about 1,000 locations at high risk of landslides on the roads.
