Hometown Voice Club, with the participation of artisans from Cho Don commune and neighboring areas.
In 2019, the Then practice of the Tay, Nung, and Thai people in Vietnam was recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This is not only the pride of the ethnic communities, but also motivates Thai Nguyen to promote many activities to preserve, transmit, and spread traditional cultural values in contemporary life.
In Cho Don commune, the heritage preservation movement has developed strongly with the establishment and maintenance of Then singing and Tinh lute clubs. The whole commune currently has about eight clubs attracting a large number of members of all ages. Among them, the “Tinh voice of the homeland” club is considered a highlight, gathering nearly 30 members who share a passion for Tinh lute and ancient Then lyrics.
Ms. Vu Thi Luong - Club Manager expressed her enthusiasm: "The Club has built unique folk art programs to serve tourists, thereby promoting and preserving traditional melodies of the nation. We hope that many people will know and together preserve and conserve the value of Then."
Not only Then - Tinh lute, Thai Nguyen currently owns hundreds of intangible cultural heritages, including one representative heritage of humanity and 45 national heritages. To preserve effectively, the provincial cultural sector has focused on digitizing heritage records, collecting and restoring traditional cultural forms that are at risk of disappearing. Documentation, research and digital data conversion activities have been deployed to create an open archive for long-term education and promotion.
Many localities in the province have proactively established intangible cultural clubs such as Voice singing, Tac Xinh dance, Xam Co singing, etc., creating a space for activities and transmission between generations. This is also a place to meet the cultural and spiritual needs of the community, contributing to maintaining the vitality of folk art forms.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Huy - Vice Chairman of Dong Hy Commune People's Committee, Thai Nguyen Province shared: "We directed Party cells and residential groups to establish folk art clubs; at the same time, we propagated for people to actively participate in practicing, exchanging and organizing cultural activities. Thereby contributing to preserving and spreading national identity".
Along with club activities, traditional festivals, folk games, and culinary customs of the ethnic people are also restored and organized periodically. These cultural spaces become "living museums", helping to preserve heritage in a vivid way, closely linked to community life. This is also an important basis for Thai Nguyen to develop unique tourism products, rich in cultural depth.
Mr. Nguyen Van Ngoc - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thai Nguyen province said: "The cultural sector has proactively advised on many programs and plans to arouse and promote the good values of heritages, especially national heritages and representative heritages of humanity. The goal is to bring heritage into modern life, associated with tourism development and building the cultural brand of the province".
The Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term clearly identified the orientation of tourism product development that must be associated with people, culture and national identity. In that context, preserving and promoting heritage is not only a responsibility but also an opportunity for the locality to affirm its own appeal and create cultural values rich in identity.
The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thai Nguyen determined that when the heritage is properly preserved and “awakened” in contemporary life, the Land of Tea will have the conditions to form unique tourism products imbued with the spirit of the mountains and forests. This is an important foundation for tourism to gradually become an economic sector with great contributions in the new development stage of the province.
