After many recent floods, a series of irrigation works in Thai Nguyen province were damaged, especially in the northern communes of the province, the small irrigation system was severely affected. Bac Kan Irrigation Works Management and Exploitation Company Limited manages 236 works in the northern communes of Thai Nguyen province.
Due to the impact of storms No. 10 and No. 11, 39 structures were damaged, mainly related to landslides, subsidence, and broken canals. At Khuoi Noi dam (Tran Phu commune), heavy rain and floods caused erosion of the dam wing, exposing the bottom of the wall, the water intake gate and the canal section adjacent to the head dam were eroded, and the water channel was also broken.

Ban Chang Lake is one of the large reservoirs in Ngan Son commune. The recent floods have caused subsidence, broken roads leading to the lake, eroded the foot of the aqueduct, causing subsidence and tilt. The floods also broke a section of the canal that carries water from the lake to the production area in the downstream area.
Ms. Dao Thi Nguyet, Deputy Director of Bac Kan Irrigation Works Management and Exploitation Company Limited, informed that the recent floods and rains have damaged many irrigation works managed by the unit, and to repair them, it requires more than 8.6 billion VND. For minor damages such as landslides and rocks burying canals, the company has temporarily repaired them to ensure water for production. However, in the long term, additional capital is needed to continue to thoroughly repair them.
In early November 2025, the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen province issued an order to build emergency irrigation works in the communes of Ba Be, Na Phac, Ngan Son, Van Lang, Phu Thong, Yen Binh, Cho Moi and Phu Lac. The goal of this project is to build and urgently repair irrigation works damaged by storm No. 11 and post-storm floods to ensure the safety of the works and provide irrigation water for agricultural production, with a total capital of more than 10 billion VND.

In the mountainous communes in the north of Thai Nguyen province, the situation of damaged irrigation works after storms and floods also occurred in many places. Phong Quang commune has 30 irrigation works, including 2 pumping stations, a number of small dams and a system of water canals. These irrigation works serve to irrigate more than 91 hectares of productive land. After many recent floods, some sections of the canals were buried by rocks and soil.
Mr. Nguyen Anh Xuan, Chairman of Phong Quang Commune People's Committee, said that due to the mountainous terrain and steep slopes of the commune, small irrigation works are easily damaged during heavy rains and floods. In Vang Bo village field, road construction caused a large amount of soil and rocks to overflow and fill the irrigation ditch. After receiving feedback from the people, the commune allocated funds to clean up the situation, but in the long term, a thorough solution is needed. In addition, the commune regularly maintains and repairs irrigation works every year to ensure water for production.
Bach Thong commune is the fruit growing capital of the northern region of Thai Nguyen province. After the administrative boundary merger, Bach Thong commune has 138 irrigation works, mainly small works, supplying water for rice cultivation and fruit growing areas in the area. After the recent floods, 2 irrigation works were affected, including 1 canal section buried by rocks and 1 work collapsed.

Mr. Ha Ngoc Viet, Chairman of the People's Committee of Bach Thong Commune, said that the commune has arranged funds to repair the two works affected by the flood, ensuring water supply for production. However, some other works have degraded and need to continue to invest in new works or repair.
With the motto of proactive communes, effort by management units, and concentration of resources by the province, the irrigation system, which was heavily affected by floods in Thai Nguyen, is gradually being restored.
