Thai Nguyen builds smart healthcare

In Thai Nguyen, digital transformation is changing medical examination and treatment, from reception by citizen identification, electronic medical records to AI application in diagnosis. These efforts help people, especially those in mountainous areas, access medical services more conveniently and also significantly reduce the workload for medical staff, paving the way for a modern, synchronous health system across the province.

Digital platform – the "extended arm" of primary health care

At Bach Thong Medical Center, health check-ups for the elderly are conducted in an orderly and quick manner. People bring their citizen identification cards (CCCD) with chips, scan the code so that the system can automatically recognize the information, replacing the need to present a series of documents as before.

Ms. Ma Thi Sao, Director of Pac Nam Medical Center, said that the center has simultaneously applied many digital platforms in management and medical examination and treatment: Text software, work records, medical statistics, electronic health records, electronic medical records, online prescriptions, cashless payments, etc. All of them are linked to the Social Insurance agency, the Health Insurance Assessment Portal and the electronic birth and death certificate system.

"Thanks to data synchronization, the pressure on receiving, sorting and processing records at the center has been greatly reduced. People also proactively monitor their health information," said Ms. Sao.

Ms. Ha Cat Truc, Director of Bac Kan Medical Center, said that the center has deployed a series of new solutions since September 2025: Electronic medical records (EMR), self-reception system using kiosk, receiving patients via CCCD, cashless payment and connecting medical examination and treatment data with Bach Mai Hospital through the Gmedical platform.

Notably, Bac Kan has organized regular online meetings with commune health stations through the "Doctor for every home" platform, helping to quickly update the epidemic situation and provide remote professional support.

Mr. Dam Van Phuc (Bach Thong commune) shared: "Before, I always had to carry all kinds of documents. Once, I forgot my medical record book and had to go back to get it. Now, all I need is my ID card and the procedure is much faster."

In many mountainous areas, digital transformation not only improves the medical examination process but also changes the way doctors manage and monitor patient records.

Thanks to electronic health records, medical staff can check medical conditions, treatment history, prescriptions, test results, etc. with just a few operations on a computer or handheld device. All data is stored and synchronized in real time.

Thai Nguyen builds smart hospital model

In Thai Nguyen, the journey of digital transformation in healthcare has been implemented strongly and systematically. 100% of hospitals and medical centers in the area have put electronic medical records into operation. Administrative procedures have been significantly reduced, giving doctors more time for in-depth examinations.

Many facilities have applied artificial intelligence to support diagnosis. At Thai Nguyen A Hospital, the digital pathology model combined with remote consultation (Telepathology) allows doctors to compare patient sample images with large data warehouses, increasing accuracy to a higher level.

In particular, the application of AI in gastrointestinal endoscopy is considered a "third eye", helping to detect small lesions, avoid missing polyps, and increase the disease detection rate to over 95% .

Thai Nguyen is also one of four provinces nationwide piloting the Medical Data Coordination System (G-medical), connecting from the commune level to Bach Mai and Cho Ray Hospitals. 100% of medical examination and treatment facilities have completed data connection. Hundreds of thousands of records are processed through the system. Electronic referrals are faster, more transparent and more convenient for patients. More than 95% of people have electronic health records, creating a foundation for preventive medicine and community health monitoring.

Medical facilities in Thai Nguyen now accept patients through chip-embedded ID cards, VNeIDs, and public digital signatures. Electronic health records are integrated into VNeIDs, helping people easily monitor the treatment process right on their phones.

However, the implementation process still has limitations: IT infrastructure is not synchronized between lines, application software is not fully connected, and some procedures on the public service system still encounter problems.

To overcome this, Thai Nguyen is building: A unified medical data platform, linked with national data; A smart medical operations center, supporting real-time decision-making; A paperless hospital model, aiming to completely eliminate paper records; Training digital skills for medical staff associated with administrative reform.

Digital transformation in Thai Nguyen's healthcare sector is being widely implemented towards the goal of not leaving people in disadvantaged areas behind./.
