On July 19, singer Thai Thuy Linh posted several articles expressing her grief over the boat capsize in Ha Long, Quang Ninh .
In a comment, she posted a photo of a group of children and shared: "If I don't stop watching, I can't stop crying. Every picture I see is like my children, grandchildren, parents, uncles, aunts, and siblings." This comment received more than 650 interactions.
The next day, Mr. Tuan Nguyen - a relative of the children in the photo - texted Thai Thuy Linh asking for an apology and correction.
After checking, the female singer confirmed that the original photo was on Tuan Nguyen's phone, taken in August 2024 in Ha Long.
Thai Thuy Linh realized her mistake, immediately deleted the comment and posted a correction on her personal page.
"Who can not be indignant when the photo of their family's children and grandchildren being safe and sound is posted on social media to illustrate the unfortunate children who were victims of the boat capsize in Ha Long on July 19? I completely understand Mr. Tuan Nguyen's anger when the photo was widely circulated with completely false content, and I was one of the people who accidentally spread it in a comment.
I sincerely apologize to Mr. Tuan and his family for posting his photo of a relative with a caption that caused a huge misunderstanding and regret! I understand that this mistake can cause great mental damage to the children in the photo and their relatives. I also hope that whoever is misusing the photo will withdraw and correct it," she wrote.
Thai Thuy Linh accepts the lesson and promises to be more careful when using information and images on social networks.
According to her, "anything can happen, it can be accidental, but there is no shortage of people who intentionally take advantage of tragic events; and in emergency situations and emotions that exceed the normal threshold, it is easy to sympathize and believe it is real."
