Preserving the precious cultural and artistic values ​​of a talented son of the Eastern land, the memorial house of musician Do Nhuan is an interesting destination on the journey to discover the land and people of Hai Phong.

The house is located in a small alley on the musician's family's land in Hoach Trach village, Duong An commune ( Hai Phong ). Next to the house is the Do family temple of musician Do Nhuan's family.

Mr. Do Van Te, the musician's cousin, said: The memorial house, which was originally the musician's family home, was built decades ago and was funded and renovated in 2022.

The family's original 5-room tiled house with western porch has a traditional roof system with beautiful wooden rafters, rafters, purlins, lotus beams, and upper beams. Next to the memorial house is an area for visitors to rest and drink water. Next to it is a well, areca trees, and cool green trees, opening up a peaceful space in the countryside.

Inside the house, hundreds of artifacts "tell stories" about the childhood, revolutionary life and dedication to music of musician Do Nhuan.

Musician Do Nhuan was born on December 10, 1922 in Hoach Trach village, also known as Vac village. He grew up in Hai Phong, where he was exposed to people who gave him a passion for music. By the age of 14, he had taught himself traditional music and was proficient in playing many musical instruments such as bamboo flute, flute, moon lute, four-stringed lute, and monochord.

At the age of 18, he composed his first song “Trung Vuong”. The song was soon popularized among young people and students. Images of this period are recreated in one area, helping visitors visualize the musician’s living space, where he nurtured his musical soul, full of emotion and passion for the country and people.

In 1943, because he printed and distributed propaganda leaflets for the revolution, he was arrested and imprisoned in Hai Duong prison. He was then transferred to Hoa Lo prison, then exiled to Son La. At Son La prison, he met senior revolutionaries and was assigned to participate in the "Suoi Reo" newspaper - the secret newspaper of Son La prison and continued to compose many revolutionary songs.

After being released, he continued to compose many famous revolutionary songs. The most brilliant composing career of musician Do Nhuan was during the years of resistance against the US. His works, born during the bombs and bullets of war, encouraged our army and people to firmly defend the socialist North and support the battlefield in the South.

Musician Do Nhuan's name is known to music lovers through many famous songs such as: Remembering the war zone, Southern gunfire, Army singing, Dien Bien victory, Far away march, My homeland Vietnam... Among them are immortal songs such as Far away march with the famous lyrics "In our lives, there is no enemy, so we just keep going".

In 1955, his collection of songs related to the Dien Bien Phu Victory received first prize from the Vietnam Literature and Arts Association.

Throughout his life and creative career, musician Do Nhuan was a steadfast soldier, a loyal soldier on the cultural and artistic front.

With his great contributions to the revolution, musician Do Nhuan was awarded many noble titles: Second-class Independence Medal, Second-class Soldier Medal, First-class Victory Medal, posthumously awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize (first term in 1996)...

The later stages of the musician's life are fully recreated in the exhibition areas of the memorial house, such as the period of studying music at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory - Moscow; the period when he was the first General Secretary of the Vietnam Musicians' Association; the noble awards he received from the Party and the State...

During his composing career, he created nearly 100 works in the genres of songs, musicals, instrumental music, puppet shows, film soundtracks, etc. He was one of the pioneers of revolutionary music, the leader of modern Vietnamese music. The memorial house has preserved many valuable artifacts and documents such as the piano he used until his death, the mourning armband that musician Do Nhuan wore during the State funeral of President Ho Chi Minh, the camera he used during his time studying abroad, seals, music speedometers, and a number of medals and awards, etc.

Talking about the memorial house, musician Do Hong Quan, son of musician Do Nhuan, was moved: "The house preserves I am extremely happy and proud of my father's mementos and his hard work. This is a project of great spiritual value and precious to the family."

Currently, the Do Nhuan musician memorial house is an interesting destination on the journey to discover the land and people of Hai Phong, especially when the city is striving to become a "City of Music".
