Vietnam is honored to have 4 representatives appearing in the list of the best stews in Southeast Asia by the famous culinary website Taste Atlas.
With 4.4/5 stars, beef stew is loved by readers and culinary experts of Taste Atlas ranked 9th on the list.
"Beef stew is a popular Vietnamese stew that can be eaten alone or with bread and herbs. The dish often uses beef tenderloin and other ingredients such as carrots, lemongrass, cinnamon, chili, pepper, garlic, shallots and stewed until the dish has a fragrant aroma," the world- famous culinary site wrote about beef stew.
Next is chicken curry (number 22). The dish uses familiar ingredients such as chicken, potatoes, carrots, onions, garlic, coconut water,... combined with lemongrass, fish sauce, bay leaves and curry powder. This dish is served as a soup, with bread, vermicelli, pho similar to beef stew. However, compared to beef stew, chicken curry has a stronger flavor due to the influence of Indian curry.
Meanwhile, phá lấu (number 58) is a typical street food in Ho Chi Minh City, using the main ingredients of the organs of pigs, chickens, ducks or cows. The spices that appear in this dish are usually soy sauce, garlic, pepper, salt, sugar, white wine, cinnamon, star anise and five-spice powder.
"The fried offal is stewed in coconut water until soft and fragrant. Pha Lau is usually served with chili and garlic dipping sauce and bread or rice," Taste Atlas describes.
Ranked 87th on the list is thang co, a typical dish of the people in the Northwest highlands. The special thing about this dish is that it is made from horse meat and intestines. All ingredients are put into a large pan, seasoned and stewed like pha lau.
