Ms. Le Thi Suong Mai, Vice Chairperson of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City and Chairperson of the Can Tho City Labor Union, presents gifts to union members and employees of Can Tho City Power Company.
In her small house in Hung Phu ward, Ms. Le Thi Thao expressed her emotion at being visited and encouraged by the leaders of the Can Tho City Labor Union. She recounted that in 2009, while working at a brick kiln, she suffered a work accident, resulting in the amputation of her right leg and a 75% disability rating. Since then, her health has deteriorated, and her family's life has become difficult. Currently, Ms. Thao sells lottery tickets, and her husband works as a laborer, with an unstable income. Ms. Thao shared: “I am deeply moved by the visit and gifts from the Can Tho City Labor Union. This concern gives me more motivation to work hard and live well.” Ms. Thao is one of the workers who suffered work accidents and received visits and gifts from the Can Tho City Labor Union during the 2026 Workers' Month. Through this, the Labor Union provides encouragement to workers to overcome difficulties and strive for a stable life.
2026 marks the 15th time that Workers' Month has been organized according to the decision of the Central Party Secretariat. In Can Tho City, Workers' Month is increasingly being renewed in content, diversified in form, and strongly focused on the grassroots level. This year, activities take place from May 1st to May 31st, linked with the Action Month on occupational safety and health. City-level trade unions are implementing the "May Dialogue" program, the Forum "Trade Union Members Contribute to Building the Vietnamese Trade Union in the New Era," and many activities such as "Thanking Workers," "Trade Union Meal," health counseling, legal counseling, job placement, organizing cultural and sports events, and visiting trade union members and workers in difficult circumstances.
Notably, at the launching ceremony of the Action Month on Occupational Safety and Health and Workers' Month in 2026, the Can Tho City Federation of Labor Unions provided support for the construction of 20 "Trade Union Shelters," awarded 20 scholarships, and presented 100 gifts to workers in difficult circumstances. According to the plan, the city's Federation of Labor Unions will continue to organize visits to businesses to assess production, employment, wages, welfare, and occupational safety at the facilities; and simultaneously present gifts to workers who have suffered work accidents and union members and workers in difficult circumstances. As part of the Workers' Month activities, the Can Tho City Federation of Labor Unions also recently organized free medical examinations and provided free medicine to residents of Thoi An Dong ward; distributed 300 gifts, and provided medicine and medical supplies totaling 70 million VND.

Notably: The grassroots trade union of Binh Tien Bien Hoa Co., Ltd., Can Tho Branch, advised the enterprise leadership to organize the distribution of free cool water to workers every Monday and Friday, contributing to caring for the health of workers during hot weather. The grassroots trade union of Lac Ty II Co., Ltd. recently announced the decision to admit 509 workers into the trade union; and simultaneously organized a Workers' Cultural Day with activities such as a cross-country race, folk games, a culinary competition, and gift-giving to union members and workers in difficult circumstances… Along with caring for the lives of workers, the city's trade unions at all levels are promoting the emulation movement of excellent and creative labor; encouraging union members and workers to develop initiatives, improve techniques, and increase productivity. Trade union branches at all levels are strengthening their efforts to promote and encourage businesses to effectively implement occupational safety and health measures, improve working conditions, and proactively prevent occupational accidents and diseases.
The practical highlights from the 2026 Workers' Month serve as vivid evidence of the trade union's role as a partner. Not only is the trade union a solid support protecting workers' rights, but it also ignites enthusiasm and provides motivation for each member and worker to work diligently and creatively. This strong bond forms the foundation for building harmonious labor relations, contributing to the brilliant development of businesses and the city.
