Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union calls for support for students in flood-hit Khanh Hoa

According to the support proposal from the Department of Education and Training of Khanh Hoa province, there are currently 33 schools in the area with damaged facilities due to floods, with a total repair cost of 27.7 billion VND.

This is the content of the press conference on November 28 organized by Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union, informing about activities in supporting schools in Khanh Hoa province to overcome the consequences of natural disasters.

The activity aims to demonstrate the spirit of "mutual love", affection, sentiment and responsibility of the city's youth, people and organizations, units and businesses to the people and youth of Khanh Hoa province, contributing to supporting the locality to quickly overcome the consequences of natural disasters and soon stabilize the lives and learning activities of the people.

At the press conference, Ms. Trinh Thi Huyen Tran, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union, said that according to the support proposal of the Department of Education and Training of Khanh Hoa province, the locality currently has 33 schools with damaged facilities due to floods, with a total repair cost of about 27.7 billion VND. Through two mobilization rounds, the unit has received support for 15 schools, equivalent to nearly 9.9 billion VND.

Ms. Tran added that the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has launched a fundraising campaign among students and teachers across the city, collecting 3 billion VND and transferring it directly to the Department of Education and Training of Khanh Hoa province.

Support activities will focus on improving environmental sanitation, landscape beautification, repairing classrooms and supplementing damaged equipment and facilities to ensure conditions for students to soon return to stable study after natural disasters.

In addition, the City Youth Union - City Pioneer Council launched the program "Pink Smile - Going to School with You" among city students (Primary, Middle, High School) to focus on mobilizing support for learning tools, white shirts and funds to repair schools.

Currently, the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union - Ho Chi Minh City Young Pioneers Council is receiving support materials from the Red Scarf Publishing Block (Tuoi Tre Newspaper), Ho Chi Minh City Children's House, Binh Duong Children's House and Ba Ria - Vung Tau Youth Center. After 2 days of launching, the amount of goods received is estimated at more than 4 billion VND.

Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union is also connecting students of 46 schools in Ho Chi Minh City to support students of 46 schools in Khanh Hoa according to the 1-1 model (each primary school, secondary school or high school Youth Union supports 1 kindergarten, primary school, secondary school or high school in Khanh Hoa).

Mr. Ngo Minh Hai, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union, said that according to Conclusion No. 49 of the Deputy Secretary and Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, the Youth Union was assigned to mobilize all its resources to support students at schools damaged by natural disasters in Khanh Hoa province. It is expected that each student from primary to high school will receive 10 notebooks, 1 backpack and 1 set of school supplies; high school students will also receive white shirts.

According to the statistical report of Khanh Hoa province, currently 33 schools from kindergarten to high school are suffering heavy damage to their facilities such as damage to all computer room equipment, school gates, and fences. The funding for repair and reconstruction is huge, so the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union hopes that donors, philanthropists and people will continue to accompany and support Khanh Hoa students to overcome difficulties after the storm and flood to return to school soon.

In parallel with the school support activities, the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union is also preparing to send a team of 40 students from technical universities in Ho Chi Minh City to Khanh Hoa to help people repair and maintain motorbikes flooded by storms and floods. The team is expected to operate for 5 days, performing tasks such as repairing and checking motorbikes for free; at the same time, mobilizing equipment and materials to support people in changing oil, spark plugs, air filters and other minor repairs.
