After more than 3 years (from 2022 to 2025) of implementation, the project "Preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities associated with tourism development" has been creating important driving forces. The project has aroused love and pride in preserving and promoting the unique cultural values of ethnic groups.
The Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions of Can Tho City said: To implement this project, the city has carried out many conservation activities, such as organizing 9 surveys, documenting heritage for archiving; preserving typical festivals such as the Ooc-om-boc festival, Ngo boat racing, the Offering of Clothes Festival, releasing water lanterns; opening 30 training classes, 6 research programs, 8 folk culture clubs, 68 traditional art troupes.
The project also supported 442 sets of costumes and accessories for mass art troupes in pagodas; equipped 124 sets of cultural and sports equipment, built new Ngo boats, provided traditional orchestras for Khmer people... Thanks to that, it has contributed to promoting cultural and artistic movements at the grassroots level, arousing love and pride in preserving and promoting the unique cultural values of Khmer people.

Ms. Lam Thi Hau, a dance teacher at Bang Cro Chap Thmay Pagoda, Tan Thanh Commune, said: “For many years, I have taught Robam, Rom vong, Saravanh, Lomliu, Madizon dances... to Khmer people from old to young, both male and female. Seeing Khmer people love their ethnic dances, I forget my fatigue and only feel joy and happiness. In addition, I also teach dances to Kos Tung Pagoda, Dai Ta Suot Pagoda and many pagodas in Kien Giang Province. Each pagoda has from 50 to 100 students. I am very proud to be able to teach traditional ethnic dances to the younger generation to join hands in preserving the good culture of the nation.”
In addition, the Project also invests in building an exhibition house at the tourist destination of Som Rong Pagoda, renovating and embellishing the historical relic of Bat Pagoda... contributing to preserving and promoting traditional cultural values of the nation, promoting tourism development.

Ms. Thach Thi Tha Sari, manager of the Khmer costume exhibition house at Som Rong Pagoda, said: “The exhibition house has a full range of Khmer costumes such as traditional costumes, festival costumes, wedding dresses, etc., which has attracted a lot of tourists. Because in addition to admiring the beauty of the pagoda, tourists also want to wear Khmer ethnic costumes to take souvenir photos. The exhibition house has a very important meaning in promoting the good traditional cultural values of the nation to domestic and foreign tourists, while promoting tourism development, creating jobs and stable income for local Khmer children.”
Mr. Lam Hoang Mau, Director of the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions of Can Tho City, shared: To preserve and promote the value of the nation's heritage and culture, Can Tho City has also implemented many solutions such as: investing in the restoration and preservation of the art of du ke and ro bam, organizing a costume contest for the three ethnic groups Kinh, Khmer, and Hoa.
Authorities at all levels also create favorable conditions for ethnic people to participate in traditional festivals such as Chol Chnam Thmay, Sene Dolta, Ooc-om-boc festival - Ngo boat racing, water lantern festival, flower offering ceremony, Thak Con festival, etc.
It can be affirmed that this Project is very practical and has been implemented effectively, contributing to the development of the art movement, preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural values of the Khmer people.
