On December 22, the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) organized the 2024 Intellectual Meeting Conference. 289 leading intellectuals in many fields, representing the HCMC intellectual community, attended the Conference.
Mr. Nguyen Van Nen, Politburo member, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; Phan Van Mai, Central Party Committee member, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee chaired the Conference.
Speaking at the program, Mr. Le Hong Son, Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Propaganda Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, said that the Conference is an opportunity for the City to listen to opinions, proposals, and recommendations of intellectual delegates in various fields to strive to fulfill the goals and tasks of the Resolution of the 11th City Party Congress; set goals and tasks of the Resolution of the 12th City Party Congress. Thereby, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to develop with the whole country from 2025 to 2030, 2045 as expected by the people of the City.

Ho Chi Minh City is an urban area with the most important and vibrant economic , cultural, educational and international exchange activities in the country. Resolution No. 27-NQ/TW, dated August 6, 2008 on building a team of intellectuals in the period of promoting industrialization and modernization of the country in the national development strategy has become an important milestone for the work of gathering, rewarding and developing the team of intellectuals in the City.
Currently, Ho Chi Minh City has more than 21,210 individuals working in the field of science and technology; 135 active and dynamic research groups participating in international cooperation. The Overseas Vietnamese Science and Technology Club attracts about 200 intellectuals working in many fields in participating countries. |
The city has invested in building institutions to create a modern, professional working environment, attracting scientific and technological intellectuals to participate in research, study, production, and promote the development of an innovative startup ecosystem.
The city constantly innovates and improves the science and technology management mechanism to improve the quality and efficiency of research, development and application activities. Issues regulations on ordering in scientific research; develops mechanisms and policies for leading scientists and young intellectuals.
Along with preferential policies, Ho Chi Minh City established and maintained science and technology awards, motivating the city's intellectuals to continue researching and creating products to meet the city's development needs.
Since 2017, Ho Chi Minh City has standardized the process of attracting experts and scientists, creating a modern and transparent working environment. In addition, the City regularly organizes practical activities to connect intellectuals with key projects, helping them understand the city's development needs and contribute practical ideas.
To maintain its position as the economic locomotive of the South, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to promote the training and development of high-quality human resources for key industries and fields. In addition, the City will focus on attracting and developing a team of experts, scientists and people with special talents to create breakthroughs in science and technology and innovation. This will help the City's human resource development policies and strategies become more effective, contributing to realizing the goal of striving to build Ho Chi Minh City "rich, beautiful, civilized, modern and humane".
Ho Chi Minh City's intellectual community currently has about 1.6 million people, including about 18,000 professors, associate professors, doctors, leading experts, people's teachers, excellent teachers, people's artists, excellent artists and about 80,000 masters. In the field of science and technology alone, there are 188 professors and 1,116 associate professors out of a total of 6,870 PhDs. Ho Chi Minh City's intellectuals are mainly concentrated in 109 universities, 371 science and technology organizations, 78 research institutes, 279 laboratories and literary and artistic associations, professional social organizations and enterprises, accounting for over 20% of the country's scientific intellectuals. |
