On the evening of December 9, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations coordinated with the Cuban Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City to organize a ceremony to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam - Cuba diplomatic relations (December 2, 1960 - December 2, 2025).
Mr. Telce Abdel Gonzalez Morera, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Cuba; Mr. Rogelio Polanco Fuentes, Ambassador of Cuba to Vietnam; Mr. Vo Van Minh, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Pham Minh Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the City and representatives of leaders of some southern localities attended the ceremony. At the ceremony, Ms. Ariadne Feo Labrada, Consul General of Cuba in Ho Chi Minh City shared that on December 2, 1960, Cuba became the first country in the Western Hemisphere to establish relations with Vietnam.
Since then, Cuba and Vietnam have built a strong fraternal relationship, based on the common struggle for independence and social justice, under the leadership of the two Parties, States and peoples.
That special relationship goes beyond the political and diplomatic framework and is a symbol of solidarity and deep love between the two peoples, nurtured by President Ho Chi Minh and Leader Fidel Castro Ruz.
The Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Year 2025 is a year full of achievements, contributing to further strengthening the bilateral relationship.
In that context, in the Southern region, the Cuban Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City has also made efforts to promote solidarity activities, business exchanges and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, affirming its commitment to continuing to strengthen political, economic and bilateral cooperation links between the two countries.
Ms. Ariadne Feo Labrada thanked the contributions and support that the Vietnamese people, especially Ho Chi Minh City and the southern provinces, have given to Cuba through the national program implemented by the Vietnam Red Cross and the "Sun Without Borders" program organized by the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association of Ho Chi Minh City.
At the same time, he expressed deep gratitude to generations of leaders, business communities and people of the two countries who have contributed to fostering the special friendship between Vietnam and Cuba over the past 65 years.
On behalf of the city's leaders, Mr. Vo Van Minh, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, delivered a congratulatory speech, saying that the establishment of Vietnam-Cuba relations 65 years ago marked an important milestone in the development history of the two nations, a symbol of a steadfast and solid relationship that transcends space and time.
Today, in the context of peace, when cooperation and development are the major trends of the times, the special traditional friendship between Vietnam and Cuba continues to be constantly consolidated and developed to new heights by the two Parties, two States and peoples.
Mr. Vo Van Minh said that at the local level, with a spirit of empathy and international responsibility, Ho Chi Minh City is always ready to share experiences and accompany Cuba in areas where the city has strengths such as economy, trade, high-tech agriculture, application of science and technology in production, education and training, healthcare and digital transformation.
Ho Chi Minh City also attaches special importance to promoting people-to-people exchanges, enhancing business connections, expanding youth, cultural and tourism cooperation - sustainable bridges that help the two sides understand each other better, trust each other more and develop together stably and sustainably.
The leaders of Ho Chi Minh City affirmed that with the tradition of "loyalty and affection" which is the beauty of the City named after Uncle Ho, Ho Chi Minh City affirmed that it will always be a sincere friend, consistent, continuing to accompany Cuba on the path of development; strengthening cooperation to overcome difficulties and realize the noble values that have united the two peoples for more than six decades.
At the ceremony, representatives of the Organizing Committee of the fundraising program “Sun Without Borders” organized by the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association of Ho Chi Minh City and several newspapers of the city symbolically handed over 15 solar power systems to Ms. Ariadne Feo Labrada, Consul General of the Republic of Cuba in Ho Chi Minh City for installation in Cuban primary schools./.
