Attending the event were Party Central Committee member, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc; Cuban Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Ariadne Feo Labrada; representatives of diplomatic agencies, consular corps, and many representatives of organizations and departments.

Speaking at the ceremony, comrade Nguyen Van Duoc affirmed that the event celebrating the 65th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Cuba diplomatic relations is not only to mark an important historical milestone, but also a special occasion to review the loyal, exemplary and rare friendship between the two peoples.

"The slogan 'For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to sacrifice its blood' by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro has become an immortal symbol, giving strength to Vietnam during the arduous years of struggle," the Chairman of the City People's Committee emphasized.

In 2025, the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Year, the two countries have strengthened and deepened their friendly relations through regular high-level exchanges and contacts. In particular, the campaign "65 years of Vietnam-Cuba friendship" launched by Vietnam has attracted strong responses nationwide. After only 20 days of campaigning, Vietnam has donated nearly 385 billion VND to support the Cuban people and by the end of the campaign, the total amount mobilized reached more than 610 billion VND, far exceeding the original target. It is not only material, but also sentimental, the deep sharing of the Vietnamese people with their Cuban friends who are facing many difficulties.

Comrade Nguyen Van Duoc emphasized that in the current period, the Party, State and people of the two countries continue to stand side by side, strengthen solidarity, exchange experiences and promote cooperation for common prosperity. On that basis, Ho Chi Minh City is proud to be a pioneering locality, actively tightening relations with Cuba. To date, the city has signed friendly cooperation agreements with Santiago de Cuba province, Artemisa province, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, and the Cuban Ministry of Health .

Recently, responding to the call of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross to support the Cuban people, Ho Chi Minh City mobilized nearly 13 billion VND after 60 days of campaigning.

“We would like to send our Cuban brothers a message that the Vietnamese people, including the people of Ho Chi Minh City, have been, are and will always stand side by side with the Cuban people on every step of development,” said Chairman of the City People’s Committee Nguyen Van Duoc.

Cuban Consul General Ariadne Feo Labrada sincerely thanked the affection and support from the Vietnamese people, including Ho Chi Minh City.

The Consul General also recalled many cooperation projects as vivid evidence of the faithful friendship between Vietnam and Cuba. From the "Sunshine Without Borders" program bringing renewable energy to Cuban schools, to the project of bringing Vietnamese rice varieties to cultivate in Cuba, where the green rice fields are called "the result of trust and perseverance" between the two localities. Not only development cooperation, increasingly rich youth, trade, culinary and cultural exchange activities are also becoming sustainable bridges connecting the people of the two countries.
