Hue City: Many positive results in Population and Development work in 2025

SKĐS - In 2025, the Population and Development work in Hue city recorded many important results, showing the proactive participation of the health sector and departments, branches and organizations.

From consulting and communication work to providing family planning (FP) services, reproductive health care (RH) and improving population quality, many activities have been implemented synchronously and widely, bringing about clear results.

Strengthening consulting, management and policy issuance

Since the beginning of the year, the Hue City Department of Health has advised the City People's Committee and issued many important documents to serve the implementation of the Population and Development tasks. Documents related to organizing communication campaigns, developing plans to provide reproductive health/family planning services, evaluating population programs for the period 2021 to 2025, as well as preparing for the new national target program (2026 to 2030) have been promptly issued.

Population and Development work in Hue city continues to record many important results.

In particular, communication plans, preliminary and final reports of professional programs, and inter-sectoral coordination guidelines are specifically developed, contributing to creating unity in direction from the city to the grassroots.

According to statistics up to October 31, 2025, the whole city had 9,152 children born, a decrease of 1,881 children compared to the same period last year. Up to now, the whole city has 65,446 new people implementing contraceptive measures, reaching 94.8% of the plan. Of which, oral contraceptives and condoms have the highest rate (over 98%).

In parallel, the integrated communication campaign to provide reproductive health/family planning services in 2025 was implemented by 9/9 health centers. The campaign results were positive with the total number of contraceptive methods provided reaching 96.1% of the plan. 14,977 women were examined for reproductive health and more than 2,294 cases of reproductive tract infections were detected and treated.

Communication and sexual health education activities are regularly organized by the Department of Population and Children (Hue City Department of Health) in coordination with schools.

Many communication activities were coordinated with newspapers, radio, the Smart City Monitoring and Operation Center, social networks and grassroots loudspeaker systems. Communication content focused on raising awareness of gender imbalance at birth, reproductive health care, prevention of early marriage and incestuous marriage, and the harmful effects of unwanted pregnancies.

Training sessions and seminars are organized for many target groups such as the elderly, youth, people with disabilities, and industrial park workers, contributing to bringing population and reproductive health information to the right groups.

Many positive results in improving population quality

Prenatal and newborn screening continued to be maintained effectively. The whole city performed prenatal screening for 10,171 pregnant women (88.1%), of which more than 53% were screened for all four diseases. Newborn screening reached 66.1% with 6,050 children sampled, of which 3,579 children were screened for all five diseases, accounting for 39.1% of the whole city.

The pre-marital health examination and counseling program also recorded many results with 201 club activities. 2,323 young couples received health examinations, reaching 64.4%. The situation of child marriage was controlled and decreased compared to the same period last year.

The city continues to effectively utilize the golden population structure, integrating population variables into the socio-economic development plans of each locality, creating a strong driving force for sustainable development and adaptation to population aging.

Reproductive health communication activities are regularly deployed.

In 2025, elderly health care activities were widely deployed with 157 club activities, 104 seminars and 37 conferences, attracting tens of thousands of participants. 157,300 elderly people received periodic health check-ups, reaching 77.4% of the total elderly population.

Besides, Hue city still faces challenges such as population aging rate, uneven birth rate decline among regions and gender imbalance at birth still occurring.

In the coming time, the city will continue to simultaneously deploy groups of solutions to improve population quality and achieve set targets such as enhancing maternal and child health care, expanding screening programs, diagnosing and early treatment of prenatal and neonatal diseases.

The city has also implemented a health care project for the elderly, including establishing health records, regular check-ups and chronic disease prevention. This is a focus to adapt to population aging. At the same time, it will promote prenatal and newborn screening, premarital counseling, reduce child marriage and early detection of congenital abnormalities and diseases.
