Bui Nhat Minh, a student in class 10 Math 1 at the High School for Gifted Students affiliated with Hanoi University of Education, has just won first prize in mathematics at the national excellent student competition for the 2025-2026 school year.
Not only did Nhat Minh win first prize, but he also achieved the third highest score in the exam. The top scorer was Nguyen Le Nhat Nam, a senior in 12th grade at the High School for Gifted Students affiliated with Hanoi University of Education.
Ms. Quách Phạm Thùy Trang, Vice Principal of the High School for Gifted Students affiliated with Hanoi University of Education, said that Minh is one of the outstanding students of the entire school, and the first impression is that he simultaneously achieved the top score in the entrance exams for two prestigious specialized high schools.
In this year's national excellent student competition, Nhat Minh excelled, achieving top scores in three categories.
Specifically, with 34 points and despite being in 10th grade, Nhat Minh was only 2.5 points behind the top scorer Nguyen Le Nhat Nam (a 12th-grade student) (Nhat Nam scored 36.5 points).

Previously, in the 2025 high school entrance exam, Nhat Minh achieved a double victory, becoming the top scorer in the entrance exams for two prestigious specialized high schools: the Faculty of Natural Sciences ( thuộc Hanoi National University) and the Faculty of Education ( thuộc Hanoi Pedagogical University). The male student made a strong impression by achieving a perfect score of 10 in specialized mathematics and a record-breaking total score.
Speaking to a reporter from Dan Tri newspaper at the time, Nhat Minh's mother said that her son's love for mathematics appeared very early. When he was in elementary school, whenever he was taken to a bookstore, he would only choose to buy math books.
During his middle school years, Minh decided to pursue a career in mathematics and applied to a specialized high school. From there, he focused on studying math, delving deeper into mathematical problems on his own, in addition to attending extra classes.
Minh is very enthusiastic about participating in national and international math competitions. She has participated in many online international math competitions and won dozens of awards. Participating in these competitions is a way for Minh to assess her own progress and see how far she has come compared to the goals she has set for herself.

In fact, Minh's parents sometimes felt "scared" by his intense passion for mathematics, worrying that he would put too much pressure on himself. Minh's parents didn't set any goals for him; on the contrary, he set his own goals and managed his study time independently.
Sometimes, parents have to encourage their sons to reduce the time they spend studying math, to know when to stop when they feel tired, so they can enjoy the joy of learning.
Fearing their son would develop unevenly, Minh's parents encouraged him to learn to play the piano. He learned very quickly; exercises that others took two weeks to complete, he finished in two days, much to the surprise of his piano teacher.
Seeing that learning to play the piano wasn't challenging enough for their son, Minh's parents encouraged him to take up martial arts. At one point, he attended up to five martial arts classes a week and quickly earned his belt.
In the eyes of her teachers and friends, Minh is also very talented; she knows how to play classical music on the piano, is very enthusiastic about group activities, and is a very flexible and witty MC.

Ms. Le Thi Phuong Thao, Minh's homeroom teacher throughout his middle school years, commented that Minh's most prominent personality traits were optimism, calmness, and moderation.
Minh doesn't compete with his classmates; he always focuses on surpassing himself in his math studies. Minh dreams of becoming a mathematician and plans to study in Japan in the future.
Candidates in the following subjects will be selected to participate in the 2026 Olympic team selection exam (expected to be held in March 2026) if they achieve the following scores: Mathematics 26 points or higher; Physics 23.25 points or higher; Chemistry 26.375 points or higher; Biology 25 points or higher; Informatics 24.790 points or higher.
