Dismantling the encroachment of bamboo cages on the lagoon in Vinh Ha commune

Currently, in Vinh Ha commune, there are 256 households with 285 bamboo traps of local people using bamboo traps to make bamboo traps for aquaculture (NTTS) on the lagoon, with an area of about 419 hectares. With the current situation of households using bamboo traps to make NTTS bamboo traps, the water surface of Vinh Ha commune's lagoon is densely packed, seriously obstructing waterways and water flows, polluting the lagoon environment, and affecting NTTS. Most of the bamboo trap area is spontaneous and encroached, leading to an increasingly dense bamboo trap density, not only disrupting the sustainability of lagoon aquaculture, but also affecting agricultural production and coastal relationships, especially the risk of causing unpredictable consequences when an epidemic occurs, easily spreading over a large area.

In recent times, the locality has coordinated with relevant units to disseminate information to the people about the policy of dismantling the traps, mobilizing people to voluntarily dismantle them, and has developed a plan to help people dismantle them in accordance with regulations, which has been supported by the people. People have signed a commitment to carry out the dismantling themselves to free up the water surface area on the lagoon. More than 20 households have completed the dismantling.

Local authorities also strictly handle cases of using destructive fishing gear. At the same time, well-managed fishing grounds have been arranged, determined not to let them be encroached again. Particularly for areas of people with licenses, the authorities coordinate with specialized agencies to explain and rearrange them reasonably, in accordance with regulations.

Phu Vang district has a plan to arrange and manage lagoon exploitation and aquaculture activities, ensuring ecosystem protection, clearing waterways to restore the natural aquatic development environment, and protecting the district's lagoon resources in a sustainable and effective manner.
