From rural dreams to international medals.
Mr. Nguyen Ba Tu, born in 1981, comes from a farming family in the former Thieu Hoa district and has always cherished the dream of becoming a teacher who inspires generations of students. His life and career are a testament to the spirit of overcoming difficulties and relentlessly striving to turn his aspirations into reality.
In 2005, after graduating from Hong Duc University with a degree in Physics Education, he was assigned to teach at Ba Thuoc High School – a place where students were hungry and thirsty for knowledge. Two years later, he transferred to Nong Cong 3 High School, where he achieved initial success: 55 students won provincial-level awards and 3 students won national-level awards, marking an impressive milestone as he became the only person in the district to lead his students to high-ranking awards.

Teacher Nguyen Ba Tu shared this at the ceremony commemorating Vietnamese Teachers' Day on November 20th and the 8th National Emulation Congress of the Education Sector for the period 2025-2030.
In 2020, Mr. Nguyen Ba Tu was transferred to Lam Son High School for the Gifted - one of the top specialized high schools in the country. He shared: “Lam Son High School for the Gifted receives close attention from the province and the Department of Education and Training, has dedicated teachers, and intelligent and passionate students - these are good conditions for me to contribute. However, the work of nurturing gifted students also faces many challenges: the content of the exams is constantly changing, teachers have to constantly learn and research; equipment and laboratories are limited; students face significant psychological pressure, and at the same time, the remuneration and policies for teachers directly involved in training gifted students still have many shortcomings.”
However, for him, difficulties are challenges, and hardships are motivations. He always finds ways to turn pressure into motivation and challenges into achievements. According to Mr. Nguyen Ba Tu, Physics requires scientific thinking, logic, and intense concentration, but he always finds ways to make the subject a source of inspiration for his students. He proactively seeks out and translates advanced materials, develops detailed study plans, and continuously updates his teaching methods.
Nurturing gifted students is a long journey, requiring passion and effort from both teachers and students. Teacher Tư always listens, accompanies, and shares knowledge and difficulties with his students, becoming a trusted friend on their path to conquering intellectual heights.
The teacher confided: "To best convey both professional knowledge and life lessons, a teacher must constantly strive. Only by making an effort will the students not let us down."

Teachers and parents of Lam Son High School for Gifted Students welcome Mr. Nguyen Ba Tu and his students after the 2024 International Physics Olympiad (IPhO).
The results of those persistent efforts are truly impressive. Between 2021 and 2024, Mr. Nguyen Ba Tu directly mentored four outstanding students who won medals at international and regional Olympiads. In 2024, his students brought home one Silver Medal at the International Physics Olympiad, along with one Silver Medal and two Bronze Medals at the Asia- Pacific Physics Olympiad.
In his work nurturing gifted students, Mr. Nguyen Ba Tu achieved outstanding results: 14 students won national awards in Physics at Lam Son Specialized High School; 3 students won national awards in Physics and 2 students won prizes in the calculator competition while he was working at Nong Cong 3 High School...
Not only is he an inspiring figure in learning, Mr. Nguyen Ba Tu is also actively involved in scientific research and innovative teaching methods. He has had 13 innovative teaching methods recognized at the provincial level and one scientific research project implemented in practice, contributing to improving the professional quality of the entire school.
"Witnessing the moment the students stepped onto the podium to receive their medals, I felt incredibly proud. At that moment, I also understood even more clearly the difficult journey that my students and I have gone through to achieve these results," teacher Nguyen Ba Tu shared emotionally.
For his outstanding contributions to the field of education, Mr. Nguyen Ba Tu has been honored with many prestigious awards: a Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister; 13 Certificates of Merit from ministries and provinces; the title of Outstanding Teacher in Thanh Hoa Education Sector in 2018 and 2024; and in 2025, a Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Education and Training for outstanding achievements in the emulation movement "Innovation and Creativity in Management, Teaching and Learning" during the 2020-2025 period.
The teacher inspires and instills confidence.
"To best convey both professional knowledge and life lessons, teachers must constantly strive for improvement. Only with our efforts will our students not let us down," said teacher Nguyen Ba Tu.
In his work with students, Mr. Tư always closely monitors each stage of learning and each difficult exercise. Before each exam, he reminds them: "Just be yourselves, and you are already winners."
A prime example is Ha Duy Phuc, a former student of Lam Son High School for Gifted Students, who achieved outstanding results at the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) in 2024. She is currently a student at the National University of Singapore.
On this November 20th, Phuc expressed his deep gratitude to the teacher who has accompanied and guided him: “I am fortunate to have been accompanied by a very special teacher - Mr. Nguyen Ba Tu, who is both my homeroom teacher and the person who inspired and ignited my passion for Physics. He lit the flame that led me to the end of the path I have chosen. On the occasion of November 20th, I wish all teachers good health, happiness, and continued inspiration for future generations of students.”

On November 17, 2025, Mr. Nguyen Ba Tu received a Certificate of Commendation from the Ministry of Education and Training for his outstanding achievements in the emulation movement "Innovation and Creativity in Management, Teaching and Learning" during the period 2020 - 2025.
Throughout his studies, Phuc won numerous awards. In 12th grade, Phuc won a gold medal in the Northern Coastal and Delta Region Excellent Student Competition and second prize nationally in Physics; he also won a silver medal at the Asian Physics Olympiad and the International Physics Olympiad.
Phuc recalled the tense moment before the international exam: “The night before the exam, I was so worried I was afraid I would forget what I had learned. Teacher Tu came in, didn't explain anything further, but gently said: 'Don't be afraid, just stay calm and be yourself.' That evening, he even took me out to eat and stayed with me to help me relax. It was that quiet care and those seemingly simple words that helped me relieve the pressure, regain my composure, and confidently enter the exam.”
Currently studying in a competitive environment in Singapore, Phuc recognizes the fundamental values that the teachers at Lam Son High School have instilled in him. He affirms: "The knowledge, skills, and training from Lam Son will always be the foundation for me to strive in my studies, improve myself, and in the future, return to contribute to my homeland and country."
Based on his experience, Mr. Nguyen Ba Tu shared his desire for more policies to attract talented students and science enthusiasts into the education sector, so that they can later become teachers who inspire future generations. He also hoped that the State would continue to invest in specialized schools, especially in laboratory equipment and learning conditions; and that parents and the community would better understand the hardships of teachers and work together to care for their children. When these things come together, Vietnamese education will continue to achieve success in many fields, especially in international competitions.
And along that journey, teachers like Mr. Nguyen Ba Tu are the pillars of support, the ones who ignite the flame, sow faith, and persistently accompany their students in overcoming their own limitations. He not only imparts knowledge but also inspires and nurtures character, so that each student steps out into the world equipped with knowledge, courage, and gratitude. The image of this dedicated, persistent, and silently contributing teacher is the most beautiful testament to the enduring value of the teaching profession.
