Mr. Mahmut Sahin, living in the town of Elmshorn, Schleswig-Holstein state, Germany, was very happy when scientists told him that the stone that fell in his yard was extremely valuable.
Last month, Mr. Mahmut and his wife were sitting on the porch drinking coffee when they suddenly heard a loud bang. They ran outside to investigate and found a rock had fallen from the sky, creating a hole in the ground. The hole was even smoking.

They immediately called the fire department, thinking that their house had a gas leak. However, when the fire department arrived, they determined that it was not gas or a chemical reaction. They suspected that the rock might be a meteorite.
The Mahmut family decided to test two magnets. They had heard that meteorites are magnetic, while ordinary rocks are not. If they attracted the magnet, then the rock that fell from the sky was most likely a meteorite. Unexpectedly, the two magnets did indeed stick to the rock.
After some discussion, Mr. Mahmut contacted experts from the German Aerospace Center (DLR) for testing. After careful examination, the experts determined that this stone was indeed a meteorite. It was 4.5 billion years old. It was likely that this meteorite traveled millions of miles through space to Earth.

After 3D scanning, they concluded that the meteorite that hit Mahmut's house came from the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. It traveled several million kilometers to reach Earth.
They believe the meteorite may have weighed more than 100kg when it was in space. It is also considered the largest meteorite to have fallen in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein. Several meteorites have fallen in the area before.
When the news of the Mahmut family finding a meteorite in their garden was announced, many people offered to buy it. Offers came from all over the world . Museums also contacted to bring the meteorite to display. Some people offered to pay more than 5 billion VND to own it.
Mahmut and his family were overjoyed to hear the news. Mahmut said that having this rare meteorite fall into his yard was like accidentally winning the lottery.
