At Hang Day Stadium, The Cong - Viettel suffered a shocking 1-4 defeat against Song Lam Nghe An in the 13th round of the LPBank V-League 2025-2026.

On the evening of February 8th, The Cong - Viettel hosted Song Lam Nghe An with the hope of securing three points to continue their title race. Without the guidance of head coach Velizar Popov due to a suspension, The Cong - Viettel faced significant difficulties against a team in the lower half of the V-League standings.

Right at the start of the match, the military team conceded a goal in the 3rd minute. From a corner kick, Justin Garcia headed the ball in to open the scoring for Song Lam Nghe An.

The Cong - Viettel had a goal by Paulinho disallowed in the 8th minute due to Kyle Colonna fouling an opponent. However, they still managed to equalize 1-1 in the first half thanks to Lucao do Break's close-range shot in the 20th minute.

In the 25th minute, Lucao scored his second goal against Song Lam Nghe An, but it was disallowed due to offside.

The second half unfolded in an unbelievable way, with Song Lam Nghe An once again taking the lead. In the 53rd minute, Colonna fouled the visiting team's striker inside the penalty area, resulting in a penalty for The Cong - Viettel. Michael Olaha scored from the penalty spot, giving Song Lam Nghe An a 2-1 lead.

In the 90th minute, Paulinho fouled Olaha inside the penalty area, resulting in The Cong - Viettel conceding a second penalty. Olaha once again beat Van Viet to score, sealing a 4-1 victory for Song Lam Nghe An.

Despite this defeat, The Cong - Viettel remains third in the standings but missed the opportunity to close the gap with the top two. The military team finished the first half of the V-League season with 22 points, 5 points behind Ninh Binh and 7 points behind Hanoi Police. This is without considering Hanoi Police still has two games in hand.

Following Ninh Binh's defeat to Hoang Anh Gia Lai yesterday (7-2), The Cong - Viettel's loss to Song Lam Nghe An was another shocking defeat in V-League Round 13 for the home teams.
