CNBC, citing a source, reported that Anthropic is likely to record its first profitable quarter.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Anthropic achieved revenue of $4.8 billion in the first quarter, meaning sales have more than doubled in just a few months. By 2026, the company's revenue has already reached $10 billion.
Anthropic was founded in 2021 by a group of leaders and researchers who left OpenAI due to concerns about the company's direction. Anthropic is best known for its Claude AI modeling family, the platform behind many products such as the popular programming assistant Claude Code.
CNBC reports that the company has experienced explosive growth this year and is currently in negotiations with investors to raise capital at a valuation of approximately $900 billion. This week, Anthropic also topped CNBC's Disruptor 50 list, honoring 50 globally privately held startups in 2026.
Anthropic's Claude app rose to the top of Apple's app store in February after its high-profile confrontation with the Pentagon became public. The company had been placed on a restricted list by the US Department of Defense for refusing to grant the military unlimited access to its AI models for any legitimate purpose.
Nevertheless, Anthropic appears to be gradually regaining favor with the US government , especially after launching its Claude Mythos Preview model, which possesses advanced cybersecurity capabilities. In April, President Donald Trump stated that an agreement between the US Department of Defense and Anthropic was "possible."
Anthropic also quickly achieved success in selling its product to large enterprises, forcing the company to continuously sign additional agreements to expand its computing capacity to meet surging demand. Last month, Anthropic stated that demand from enterprises, developers, and a "surge" in individual users for Claude had created "unavoidable pressure" on its technology infrastructure.
Earlier this month, Anthropic signed an agreement with Elon Musk's SpaceX to utilize the full computing power at the company's Colossus 1 data center in Memphis, Tennessee. According to SpaceX's IPO prospectus released Wednesday, Anthropic will pay SpaceX $1.25 billion per month through May 2029 for this agreement.
Despite its strong growth, Anthropic still faces fierce competition, particularly from OpenAI, which is currently valued at over $850 billion by private investors.
OpenAI is preparing to file its IPO application and could list as early as this year. Meanwhile, Anthropic is also aiming for an IPO in 2026.
