Counterfeit goods are openly sold.
Recounting the first day of the crackdown on counterfeit goods, an officer from Market Management Team No. 1 of the Hanoi Market Management Department said that they had implemented operational measures to monitor the online sales activities of a Zalo account named "Thanh Long Sport Football Clothing Warehouse". This account had created a private group with nearly 800 members to advertise and sell football clothing, shoes, and sports socks bearing counterfeit Nike, Adidas, Puma, Manchester, and other brands.

Based on information gathered from the internet, Market Management Team No. 1, in coordination with Market Management Team No. 6, conducted a surprise inspection of the business located at 475 Phuc Dien Street, Xuan Phuong Ward, Hanoi City, owned by Mr. PTT. The inspection revealed that the establishment was operating without registration and was using social media to post, promote, and sell counterfeit goods.
Within just a few days, Hanoi's Market Management Force inspected numerous clothing businesses, issuing fines to many cases involving both in-store and online sales. "The above cases show that the business of goods with suspected counterfeit trademarks and intellectual property infringement remains complex, not only in traditional stores but also through sales on e-commerce platforms, social media, and online sales channels," a Hanoi Market Management Force official commented.
In An Giang province, on May 18th, Team 12 of the An Giang Market Management Department conducted a surprise inspection of the KT business located on Nguyen Trai Street, Hoa Long IV Hamlet, An Chau Commune, An Giang Province. Initial inspection results revealed that the business was displaying and selling many unused Rolex watches with metal straps, of unknown origin. In the recent case of discovering and apprehending a counterfeit Eagle Brand medicated oil production facility in Tay Ninh, authorities determined that this facility not only invested in large-scale production and packaging machinery but also directly distributed its products online. Simultaneously, the police and Market Management Department seized a huge quantity of the same brand of medicated oil produced by this company's branch at three distribution locations in Ho Chi Minh City.

These goods were all manufactured outside Vietnam and lacked invoices or documents proving their legal origin.
Over the past week, the Da Nang City Market Management Force also inspected 5 businesses in Hai Chau, Thanh Khe, and An Hai wards, discovering 652 products including watches, handbags, backpacks, clothing, and shoes of various kinds that showed signs of counterfeiting famous brands protected in Vietnam such as Hublot, Rolex, Cartier, Longchamp, Nike, Chanel, Crocs, Prada… Notably, among these establishments, some business owners used social media to advertise and sell counterfeit products.
Strengthen inspections of essential goods and consumer products.
In Ho Chi Minh City, the country's largest consumer goods center, from May 7th to 20th, the Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department inspected and handled 138 cases of violations related to counterfeit goods and intellectual property infringement, temporarily seizing 7,287 units of various products with an estimated total value of over 4.6 billion VND.

Inspections focus on essential goods and items at risk of counterfeiting or intellectual property infringement, such as cosmetics, food, pharmaceuticals, health supplements, clothing, shoes, accessories, and consumer goods. Assessing the situation regarding trademark violations over the past two weeks, Mr. Nguyen Quang Huy, Deputy Head of the Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department, commented: Currently, smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and goods infringing intellectual property rights continue to be complex, especially in the online environment. Violators frequently change their business methods and employ sophisticated tactics, seriously affecting the rights of consumers, legitimate businesses, the investment and business environment, and market order.
"The perpetrators often use social media, livestream sales, and e-commerce platforms to advertise and trade infringing goods, while also using express delivery services and dispersed warehouses to evade inspection by authorities. Furthermore, these retail activities involving infringing goods are closely linked to physical business locations, targeting various consumer groups," Mr. Huy pointed out, emphasizing: "Currently, the Market Management Force is focusing on strengthening inspections of business activities in the e-commerce environment, strictly handling acts of producing and trading counterfeit goods, goods of unknown origin, goods infringing intellectual property rights, especially industrial property rights, and trademark counterfeiting. Essential goods serving people's lives such as milk, pharmaceuticals, health supplements, and cosmetics are identified as key groups requiring increased monitoring, inspection, and timely handling."
Besides inspection and handling of violations, the city's market management force also strengthens propaganda and encourages organizations and business households to sign commitments not to trade in counterfeit goods, goods of unknown origin, and goods infringing intellectual property rights. They also provide guidance on identifying genuine and counterfeit goods to raise awareness of law compliance and protect consumer rights, contributing to market stability, protecting consumer rights, and creating a healthy business environment in the city.
