The construction of the pedestrian street aligns with the orientation for developing the night-time economy as outlined in Decision No. 1129/QD-TTg dated July 27, 2020, of the Prime Minister and the Provincial People's Committee's plan in Decision No. 72/QD-UBND dated January 13, 2021. This is also an important step to concretize the Quang Ngai Province Tourism Development Project until 2025, with a vision to 2030, and Resolution No. 01/NQ-DH dated July 24, 2025, of the First Congress of the Nghia Lo Ward Party Committee, term 2025-2030, thereby exploiting the potential and advantages of the landscape on the southern bank of the Tra Khuc River, forming a new cultural and tourism highlight for the locality.
Mr. Tran Dinh Truong stated that Nghia Lo ward currently has many local specialties, OCOP products, and small-scale businesses, but lacks a regular display, introduction, and promotion space. Organizing a pedestrian street space will not only create opportunities to promote OCOP products, encourage entrepreneurship, and develop household economies, but also contribute to job creation, increased income, and improved living standards for the people.
Besides its economic significance, the pedestrian street also contributes to preserving and promoting intangible cultural values; restoring community cultural spaces; creating an environment for interaction and skill development for young people; and strengthening community cohesion in urban areas. This also provides favorable conditions for innovating urban order management models, environmental sanitation, ensuring security and order, and building a civilized urban lifestyle, contributing to shaping the image of Nghia Lo ward as dynamic, friendly, modern, and rich in identity.
The pedestrian street is located on Ton Duc Thang Street, east of Thach Bich Bridge, in a central area with beautiful scenery, convenient transportation, and connections to the local administrative, urban, and commercial areas. The street is 300 meters long and features 72 designated areas for displaying and selling various goods, including: OCOP (One Commune One Product) and local products (6 locations); souvenir sales area (16 locations); fast food and non-alcoholic beverage area (40 locations); and alcoholic beverage area (10 locations).

The main activities at the pedestrian street include musical performances and exchanges featuring acoustic, traditional, modern, and folk dance genres; performances of folk songs and traditional theater; installation of iconic models, check-in spaces, and a system of experiential photos that change according to seasons, festivals, and events; and the organization of artistic light displays. Each month, the pedestrian street will have a different theme such as "Startup Month," "Green Tourism Month," or "Folk Culture Month." Operating hours are from 5 PM to 10 PM on weekends (Friday to Sunday) and holidays.
According to the approved plan, the pilot period will last from 2026 to 2028. "After 3 years, the locality will evaluate the effectiveness, propose adjustments to the scale, time, and organizational methods to suit the reality, aiming to gradually build a sustainable socialized model, gradually transferring management and operation rights to the community, businesses, and cooperatives under the supervision of the local government," Mr. Tran Dinh Truong added.
In recent years, along with urbanization, the material and spiritual lives of the people in Nghia Lo ward have improved significantly; the demand for entertainment, recreation, and cultural and culinary experiences at night has increased sharply. However, the locality still lacks distinctive nighttime community spaces that reflect local identity, attract tourists, and promote sustainable development of the night economy.
