Along the central streets and in the spring flower market area of Thanh Sen ward, on the morning and afternoon of the 29th day of the Lunar New Year, people rushed to choose the remaining kumquat, peach, chrysanthemum, and marigold pots. Despite the limited time, shopping demand remained high, creating a bustling and lively atmosphere characteristic of the last day of the year.
Many stalls had a constant stream of customers coming and going, inquiring about prices and arranging for the transportation of plants home. Compared to previous days, purchasing power increased significantly on the morning and afternoon of the 29th of Tet.
As for the yellow apricot blossom trees, there is still a relatively large quantity available, mainly large, high-value potted plants. To sell off the remaining stock, many small traders proactively offered deep discounts, clearing out their inventory on the last day of the year.
Mr. Phan Tuan Dung, owner of Song Hai ornamental plant garden in Thanh Sen ward, said: “I imported nearly 300 pots of apricot blossom trees for Tet. So far, I've sold more than 200. This year, the apricot blossoms bloomed a bit early, and the price is high, so I only have about 100 trees left. Now I'm reducing the price by more than 60%, each tree is only from 2.3 million VND to sell the rest, so I can take them home to my family for Tet. The unsold trees will be sent back to other nurseries for care for next year's Tet season.”
The bustling atmosphere of buying and selling from morning until noon indicates that the flower and ornamental plant market is quite favorable this year.
By early afternoon, kumquats, peach blossoms, chrysanthemums, etc., were basically all sold out, with only a negligible amount remaining. Mr. Phan Van Thong from Thanh Sen ward said: “This year, kumquats are selling quite well, selling out earlier than in previous years. Most have been sold, with only 1-2 large trees left at a discounted price to clear stock for the Lunar New Year. Traders are happy because this year the purchasing power is quite good, with many people coming to buy.”
The vendors are busy clearing away the metal frames, pots, and other items in preparation for returning the space. The remaining plants are being transported to nurseries for continued care.
By the afternoon of the 29th day of the Lunar New Year, the atmosphere at the spring flower stalls had basically come to a close, marking a successful business season that ended earlier than usual. VIDEO : Flower and ornamental plant market on the 29th day of the Lunar New Year.
