Small business owners are proactively securing their supplies, hoping for increased purchasing power.
In the days leading up to the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, the flower and ornamental plant market in Quang Tri province is becoming bustling. From traditional flower villages to the central flower market in Dong Hoi ward, the buying and selling atmosphere is urgent, reflecting the demand for decorating and beautifying living spaces during the traditional Tet holiday.

The market for flowers and ornamental plants in Quang Tri province is starting to become bustling.
According to observations, this year traditional flowers such as chrysanthemums, kumquat trees, yellow apricot blossoms, and pomelo trees continue to dominate. The main supply comes from flower growers in the southern provinces, combined with some ornamental plants brought in from neighboring provinces for consumption.
In Dong Hoi and Dong Thuan wards of Quang Tri province, flower selling points this year are arranged in many central areas such as: the former Quang Binh Provincial Cultural Center, along Nguyen Huu Canh, Tran Hung Dao, and Pham Van Dong streets... It is known that traders started importing goods from the beginning of the twelfth lunar month to serve the early shopping needs of the people.

Ms. Le Thi Hien, a small business owner specializing in kumquat and apricot blossom trees on Pham Van Dong Street, Dong Hoi Ward, shared: “This year, kumquat and apricot blossom trees come in a wide variety of designs and sizes, making it easy for customers to choose. Prices have increased slightly due to higher care and transportation costs, but overall, they are still within people's affordability.”

This year's Tet flowers are mostly similar to those of previous years in terms of form and variety.
Meanwhile, unique ornamental plants with feng shui significance, such as ornamental pomelo trees, are also being offered for sale by many small traders. Nguyen Van Thanh, the owner of an ornamental pomelo stall in Dong Hoi ward, said: “This year I imported more miniature and shaped ornamental pomelo trees to serve customers buying them as gifts. Although the price is higher than traditional flowers, the number of interested customers is quite stable.”
People buy flowers early, prioritizing products that fit their budget.
Not only are vendors proactively sourcing their supplies, but people are also starting to go to the flower market early to choose their favorite potted plants. Flower display areas in Nam Dong Ha ward these days attract a large number of people to visit and shop.

Peach blossoms for Tet are imported from the northern provinces.
Ms. Vu Thi Hong, a resident of Nam Dong Ha ward, shared: “Every year, my family buys chrysanthemums and kumquats to decorate for Tet. This year, I went early to choose carefully, and I found the prices relatively reasonable, the flowers beautiful and diverse.”

People in Quang Tri are going to the Tet market earlier than usual this year.
Meanwhile, Mr. Tran Van Binh, a customer buying flowers as gifts for Tet, said: “I chose to buy a small apricot blossom tree to give to my grandparents. The tree is neat, has a beautiful shape, and the price is reasonable. Going to the flower market these days is also a way to feel the atmosphere of Tet approaching.”

Even though the year is drawing to a close, miniature kumquat bonsai trees continue to be imported to serve the public.
According to traders, purchasing power usually increases sharply about a week before the Lunar New Year, when the demand for decorating homes, offices, and workplaces reaches its peak. Although still affected by input costs, the overall market for Tet flowers in Quang Tri this year is expected to be more stable and vibrant, contributing to boosting domestic consumption and creating additional income for flower growers and ornamental plant businesses in the area.

Besides traditional flowers, orchids continue to be a popular choice among affluent customers during the Lunar New Year. At several orchid shops in Dong Hoi ward, the number of customers browsing and ordering phalaenopsis and dendrobium orchids has been steadily increasing since mid-December.
"Orchids remain the most popular choice because they are easy to care for, have long-lasting blooms, and are suitable for display in living rooms, offices, and businesses during Tet," shared a shop owner selling orchids on Ly Thuong Kiet Street.

Orchid prices have increased slightly this year compared to last year due to higher costs for importing seedlings, care, and transportation; however, demand remains stable.
According to the shop owner, orchid prices this year have increased slightly compared to last year due to higher costs for importing seedlings, care, and transportation. However, demand remains stable, especially among customers buying orchids as gifts or for decoration in offices and organizations.
Conversely, consumers are also showing a trend towards choosing orchids as a Tet (Lunar New Year) product that possesses both aesthetic appeal and lasting value.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, a customer buying orchids at a center of the Quang Tri Provincial Department of Science and Technology, shared: “In recent years, my family has often chosen Phalaenopsis orchids to display during Tet because the flowers are beautiful, elegant, and last a long time. They are more expensive than chrysanthemums or kumquats, but they create a very different atmosphere in the house, perfectly suited to Tet.”

Orchids grown in the Sa Mu mountain region are making their first appearance in the city to serve the public.
According to observations, although not the main segment in terms of quantity, orchids are gradually asserting their own position in the Quang Tri Tet flower market, contributing to product diversification and meeting the increasingly diverse needs of consumers.
In Ly Trach flower village, Nam Trach commune, Quang Tri province, the "flower capital" has nearly 300 households with a total area of 50 hectares dedicated to year-round flower cultivation. In the days leading up to the Lunar New Year, the village roads are bustling with vehicles transporting flowers for sale. Along the entrances to the flower-growing areas, hundreds of pots of yellow chrysanthemums, lilies, carnations, and other flowers are neatly arranged in the fields, ready to be shipped by traders to many provinces and cities throughout the country.
