The demand for memory for AI servers has skyrocketed, pushing up DRAM prices and affecting the rest of the tech market. Not just smartphones, in the near future, desktops and laptops will also face a "price storm".
TrendForce , citing several reputable sources, revealed that Lenovo has informed customers about the upcoming price increase. The adjustments by the world's largest computer maker by market share are expected to take effect in early 2026.
Accordingly, the company said that all current quotes will expire on January 1, 2026. The two main reasons mentioned in the price adjustment notice are the increasingly severe memory shortage and the rapid integration of AI technologies.
On the one hand, the strain on the global supply chain is causing memory costs to skyrocket, affecting overall hardware prices, according to Lenovo. At the same time, the race to deploy AI applications by businesses is driving unprecedented demand for high-performance systems, further tightening supply and pushing up prices.
Therefore, the company recommends that customers place orders as soon as possible to ensure purchasing at current prices and avoid additional costs due to price adjustments.
Meanwhile, Dell, the world's third-largest computer maker, is reportedly raising prices on its personal computers by at least 15-20 percent, with the new prices likely to take effect as early as mid-December.

According to Statista , Lenovo and Dell's market shares in the personal computer market in 2024 are 25.5% and 16.1%, respectively. Therefore, this price adjustment could have a big impact, enough to create a wave of price increases across the entire market.
Previously, since late November, Bloomberg reported that Dell CEO Jeff Clarke warned that he "has never seen memory chip prices increase so quickly", causing production costs to increase across all product lines.
PC makers are under increasing pressure as key DRAM components, including DDR5, surged 70% year-on-year, with some components even soaring as much as 170%, Chosun Biz reported.
The report added that global leading companies such as Lenovo, HP and Dell, along with Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, are reviewing their 2026 product roadmaps, including AI PCs and tablets.
According to Asia Business Daily , HP CEO Enrique Lores warned that the second half of 2026 will be particularly difficult and prices could rise if necessary. He noted that memory chips account for about 15–18% of the cost of a typical PC.
The latest report from TrendForce said that memory price fluctuations have significantly increased bill of materials (BOM) costs in the consumer electronics sector, forcing brands to increase retail prices and reducing market demand.
As a result, TrendForce lowered its 2026 laptop sales forecast from an initial growth of 1.7% to a year-on-year decline of 2.4%.
