Damage of more than 2 billion VND due to floods

According to information from the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Control and Search and Rescue of Lao Cai province, in the 4 days from July 28 to July 31, localities in Lao Cai province had heavy rains, affecting people's houses and property.

Specifically, in localities such as Van Ban, Bao Thang, Bao Yen and Lao Cai city, heavy rains and floods caused 130 houses to be flooded, landslides and mud to flow into houses, causing damage and loss of property. Of which, Lao Cai city had 128 houses affected (120 houses were flooded, 8 houses had landslides and mud to flow into houses); Bao Thang district had 3 houses with landslides and mud to flow into houses.

Heavy rains and floods have caused localized flooding and affected many people's properties in Lao Cai province.

Floods on the morning of July 28 swept away a baby girl born in 2008, residing in Ma Sa Phin village, Nam Xay commune, Van Ban district, Lao Cai. Immediately after receiving news of the baby being swept away, the authorities of Van Ban district launched a search. At 2:30 p.m. on July 29, the rescue team found the victim's body and handed it over to her family for burial according to local customs.

Damage to agricultural and forestry production, according to statistics, in Lao Cai province, 86.43 hectares of rice and crops were buried and damaged.

Regarding infrastructure, heavy rains and floods have caused flooding, landslides, and damage to a number of national highways, provincial roads, and district roads in Lao Cai province. In addition, on July 29 and 30, lightning damaged the FM transmitter room of the Bao Yen District Cultural and Communication Center and set fire to the Level 1 Pumping Station of the Lao Cai Water Plant.

The estimated value of damage caused by storms and floods from July 28 to 31 is more than 2,250 billion VND.

According to information from Lao Cai Hydrometeorological Station, through monitoring until 20:40 on August 1, 2023, convective clouds were observed developing in the southern part of Lao Cai province, moving at about 15 - 20 km/h from Northeast to Southwest. The above areas had scattered rain, showers and thunderstorms, accompanied by strong winds and lightning in some places.
In the next one or two days, the districts of Bao Yen, Bac Ha, Bao Thang, Van Ban, Lao Cai city, Sa Pa town and neighboring areas will continue to experience moderate to heavy rain. People need to be on guard against tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind during thunderstorms.
