When Vietnamese people go to Thailand, Korea or vice versa, tourists from these two countries when coming to Vietnam can use bank cards to pay via QR codes and chip cards.

NAPAS chip card payment in Korea

South Korea is the country with the highest number of tourists to Vietnam. In contrast, the number of Vietnamese tourists to South Korea has also increased rapidly in recent years. Overcoming the difficult period of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Government and businesses of the two countries have actively implemented many cooperation activities to revive the tourism industry.

To facilitate payment for goods and services for tourists, the National Payment Corporation of Vietnam (NAPAS) has cooperated with BC Card Company on the chip card project. NAPAS cardholders issued by domestic banks can spend at a network of more than 3 million POS merchants in Korea. Including major duty-free retail chains such as Lotte, Shila, etc. At the same time, Vietnamese tourists can withdraw cash at 30,000 BC Card ATMs in Korea.

Use Vietnamese bank card to shop in Korea

In addition to convenient payment and withdrawal, tourists also receive better exchange rates. At the same time, the Vietnamese language on the ATM interface and the identification of NAPAS card payment acceptance at Korean payment counters will help Vietnamese people read, understand and recognize more easily and especially feel more secure when spending and shopping.

Currently, NAPAS has coordinated to apply to chip cards issued by 17 Vietnamese banks. In the future, the implementation will be considered to support the opposite direction so that Korean customers can spend using BC Card in Vietnam.

Scan QR code in Thailand

Since 2021, NAPAS has completed the connection of retail payments using QR codes with the Thai Switching Company (NITMX). Through this cooperation, users of payment applications of Vietnamese banks participating in the service deployment can scan ThaiQR codes to pay for goods and services at payment acceptance points in Thailand and vice versa. Tourists from Thailand can scan VietQR codes to pay for goods and services at payment acceptance units in Vietnam.

Up to now, a number of Vietnamese banks have participated in deploying services for users, including BIDV , Vietinbank, TPBank, VietinBank and Sacombank. In the coming time, NAPAS will continue to connect and deploy more Vietnamese banks to increase convenience for people in spending and paying electronically when traveling or working in Thailand. On the Thai side, the banks participating in the project include: Bangkok Bank, Siam Commercial Bank, Kasikorn Bank, Bank of Ayudhya, Krung Thai Bank.

Payment will be converted directly between Thai Baht (THB) and Vietnamese Dong (VND) at a preferential exchange rate, which is more beneficial than using other international payment methods because there is no need to convert to another intermediate foreign currency.

Not only Thailand, NAPAS will expand payment via QR code scanning to other countries in the ASEAN region as well as in countries where Vietnamese tourists will travel a lot.
