The cherry blossoms beckon tourists.

As Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year) arrives and spring returns, the Mang Den plateau in Mang Den commune, Quang Ngai province, seems to don a gentle pink cloak of cherry blossoms. The flowers bloom along the roads, in parks, hotels, and tourist areas, making the entire mountainous landscape warm and romantic.

During the cherry blossom season, tourists flock to many spots in Mang Den commune to take photos with the cherry blossoms, such as the Mang Den Victory Monument area, National Highway 24, Dak Ke Lake, Dam Bri Lake, Pa Sy Waterfall, Soc Farm, E Ban Farm, and the tourist villages of Kon Pring and Kon Vong Kia, etc.

Many years ago, when the cherry blossoms in Mang Den were "shining brightly on social media," Mr. Nguyen Duc Viet (residing in Ho Chi Minh City) planned to take his family there to visit. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and his busy work schedule, that trip had to be postponed several times.

After several missed opportunities, this year, Viet's family finally decided to make time to go to Mang Den with friends during the cherry blossom season. "I just wanted to leisurely walk in the cool weather, admire the rows of cherry blossoms in bloom, and experience the beauty of Mang Den that I had only seen in pictures before," Viet shared.

For the family of Ms. Pham Thi Hien (residing in Thong Nhat ward, Gia Lai province ), the Mang Den tourist area has become a familiar destination every year at the beginning of the year. According to Ms. Hien, after a year of work, a trip to see the cherry blossoms is a precious time for the whole family to relax and recharge. Despite their busy schedules, every year her family makes time to go to Mang Den during the cherry blossom season.

"I hope the local authorities will continue to preserve the natural forest and mountain landscape, and plant more cherry blossom trees so that tourists visiting Mang Den can always experience a peaceful atmosphere and capture memorable images," Ms. Hien shared.

Besides its scenic beauty, the cherry blossom season also opens up new livelihoods for the local people. During peak seasons, culinary services and traditional cultural experiences are popular with tourists, providing the local community with additional income.

Mr. A Drue, Secretary of the Party Branch of Kon Vong Kia village, Mang Den commune, said that the village currently has 146 households with 475 inhabitants. Recognizing the potential that cherry blossoms bring, the people have actively planted this type of tree along the roads, in the community cultural center area, etc.

"The villagers still maintain three gong ensembles and cultural and culinary experiences to serve tourists. Thanks to this, the people in the village can earn from 700 million to over a billion VND each year from cultural and culinary activities serving tourists," said Mr. A Drue.

The goal is to plant 1 million cherry blossom trees.

The beauty of this landscape is the result of the perseverance of the government and the people in their journey to cover this highland region in pink cherry blossoms. Over the years, local organizations and residents have planted thousands of cherry blossom trees along roads, in residential areas, and in tourist villages, etc.

Mr. Pham Van Thang, Chairman of the People's Committee of Mang Den commune, said that the project to cover the Mang Den area with cherry blossom trees has been implemented by the locality for many years. Cherry blossom trees are not only beautiful but also very suitable for the climate and soil of Mang Den.

According to Mr. Thang, planting cherry blossom trees is not simply for ornamental purposes but also a tourism product, creating a long-term livelihood for the people. To date, the entire commune has planted approximately 600,000 cherry blossom trees. The locality aims to plant 1 million cherry blossom trees by the end of 2026.

During the New Year's holiday, many tourists came with their families to Mang Den to create lasting memories (Photo: Do Do).

"Da Lat often organizes festivals featuring various types of flowers. Mang Den is planning to organize a cherry blossom festival every two years. This is an opportunity to build a unique brand for the locality, combining ecotourism and experiential activities."

"In the coming time, the commune will promote tourism linkages from Mang Den towards the sea and islands through the development of tourism tours and calling on businesses to invest in infrastructure construction...", Mr. Thang said.

Mr. Bui Viet Ha, Chairman of the Mang Den Tourism Association, believes that the journey of covering Mang Den in pink is not about dry statistics, but about a community-based approach. Locals and businesses plant flowers in front of their houses and within tourist areas. Youth union members regularly plant new flowers along the roads every year.

"Each cherry blossom tree planted is not only for beautification, but also a commitment to preserving the landscape and maintaining the image of tourism in Mang Den," Mr. Ha said.

According to Mr. Ha, along with growing flowers, the people of Mang Den are gradually learning how to develop tourism. Cherry blossoms are present in homestays, cafes, and experiential spaces, so that tourists not only admire the flowers but also stay longer and spend more.

To serve tourists visiting Mang Den, the Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee, in coordination with Mang Den commune, is organizing many cultural activities within the framework of the Mang Den Culture and Tourism Week and the Cherry Blossom Season 2026, which will take place in January.

Ms. Bach Thi Man, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai province, said that the Mang Den Culture and Tourism Week and the 2026 Cherry Blossom Season are considered a highlight in the orientation of promoting the image of Quang Ngai. Activities during the week will focus on exploiting the natural, cultural and human values of the locality, especially the hidden beauty of cherry blossoms in Mang Den.

According to the Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai province, the cherry blossoms of Mang Den have become a unique hallmark of this mountainous region, associated with the distinctive climate, natural landscape, and cultural life of the local people.

"In the coming time, the department will develop many cultural activities at the provincial level to attract tourists, gradually forming distinctive tourism products of the province, especially festivals associated with cherry blossoms," Ms. Man emphasized.
