Press Release for the 9th Vietnam - Laos - China Tri-Country Ball Throwing Festival, 2025

The Three-Country Ball-Throwing Festival of Vietnam, Laos, and China is a special cultural festival held annually, hosted alternately by localities sharing a common border in the three countries. This is a significant political and cultural event aimed at strengthening solidarity, friendship, and expanding exchanges, cooperation, and people-to-people diplomacy among border regions. It serves as an opportunity to promote the unique traditional cultures of the three countries, showcase tourism potential, and expand cooperation opportunities; contributing to building a peaceful, stable, friendly, cooperative, and sustainably developing border between the Party committees, governments, and people of the three countries.

The 9th Vietnam-Laos-China Ball Throwing Festival, to be held in 2025, will be hosted by Dien Bien province with the participation of delegations from Dien Bien and Lai Chau provinces of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; delegations from Phongsaly province of the Lao People's Democratic Republic; and delegations from Jiangcheng County, Pu'er City, Yunnan Province, People's Republic of China.

The festival, themed “Unity, Friendship – Deepening Border Relations – Developing Together,” will take place over three days (from December 19th to December 21st, 2025) in Dien Bien Phu ward, Dien Bien province. The festival includes a series of rich cultural, sports , and tourism activities, reflecting the unique traditional cultural identities of the ethnic groups and localities of the three countries.

1. The festival will open with a spectacular artistic program showcasing the beauty of the land and people, the potential and strengths of the region, and spreading and honoring the good and lasting solidarity and friendship between localities in particular, and between Vietnam and Laos and China in general. The program will be broadcast live on the television channels and social media of Dien Bien Newspaper and Dien Bien Radio and Television.

2. Cultural exchange program and traditional costume show.

3. Exhibition space for showcasing and promoting cultural and tourism products, and photo exhibitions.

4. Sports exchange and competition activities: Competition and exchange experiences in 6 sports including throwing the ball, stick pushing, crossbow shooting, spinning top, tug-of-war, and pickleball.

5. Tourism Activities: Organize a Famtrip program to survey tourism products and meet with travel service businesses from the three countries.

6. Closing Ceremony: Summarize and close the festival, hand over the flag for hosting the 10th festival; organize a bonfire and farewell circle dance.

7. Some activities to be held before and after the Festival:

- The Pú Tó Cọ Peak Climbing Race “Explore Muong Thanh Basin” and the Dien Bien Province Youth and Junior Cross-Country Race 2025 “Let's go back to Muong Phang”.

- The 2026 Swallowtail Boat Racing Festival and the "Solidarity Circle Dance along the Da Giang River" event.

- Cherry Blossom Festival - Muong Phang Commune, 2026.

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, acting as the permanent agency of the Organizing Committee for the 9th Vietnam-Laos-China Tri-Country Ball Throwing Festival in 2025, respectfully requests that media outlets and press agencies cooperate in promoting the Festival and related events.
