Biden and Trump's contrasting Christmas messages

(CLO) The current and next US Presidents have given distinctly different Christmas messages on Christmas Day this year.

While Mr. Joe Biden called on Americans to reflect and unite, Mr. Donald Trump celebrated the holiday and did not forget to attack political opponents.

In a video posted on YouTube on Christmas Eve, President Biden showcased the White House Christmas decorations and called on people to overcome divisions.

“We are here on this Earth to love and care for each other,” Mr. Biden said as the camera panned over decorated trees and fireplaces.

Biden urged Americans to find moments of reflection to remind themselves to live with respect and dignity for others, to “live in the light” and to remember that there is more that unites Americans than divides them. “We are truly blessed to live in this country,” he said.

Meanwhile, on the social network Truth Social, Donald Trump wished “Merry Christmas” on Christmas morning with a photo of himself and his wife, Melania. He then went on to repost more than two dozen posts supporting his political views, including his nomination of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and statements related to the Panama Canal and Greenland.

Mr Trump then went on to release a longer post in which he claimed Chinese soldiers were in control of the Panama Canal and criticized Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Mr Biden and the Democrats.

“Merry Christmas to the radical left who are trying to obstruct our courts and our elections,” Trump wrote. “They know their only chance of survival is to get a pardon from someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing.”

He also attacked the Canadian Prime Minister: “Merry Christmas to Governor Justin Trudeau of Canada, whose people are taxed too high. If Canada became our 51st state, their taxes would be reduced by over 60%.”

Biden, who took office in 2021, promised to end the “political civil war” between “red” and “blue” states, urban and rural, conservative and progressive. However, he withdrew from the 2024 presidential race in July, citing his desire to unite the country.

However, Mr. Biden's Democratic Party lost control of both houses of Congress and all battleground states in the November election.

Division in the United States continues to grow, especially in the 2024 election. The new Congress is expected to be the most polarized legislature in American history.

Mr Trump has not only called for the prosecution of political opponents, but has also declared that the US should take control of the Panama Canal and pledged to reform the federal government when he returns to power.
