Satellite network licensing progress in Vietnam

At a regular press conference held on the morning of December 1, a representative of the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Science and Technology , informed about the licensing of foreign satellite service providers and provided detailed information on the progress of Starlink and Amazon.

According to the leader of the Telecommunications Department, Starlink is currently near the final step of being licensed to provide services in Vietnam.

The Ministry of Science and Technology has asked for opinions from relevant ministries, including the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of National Defense. The Ministry has sent Starlink back to clarify some points in the license application.

According to information from Starlink's contact, this unit is expected to resubmit the application in the next few weeks.

As for Amazon, this unit completed the documents and sent them back on November 24. Before that, the Telecommunications Department coordinated with the Frequency Department and related units to build a very detailed guide on the documents that need to be provided.

In the next steps, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Telecommunications Department will coordinate with relevant ministries and branches to evaluate the project. The final decision belongs to the Prime Minister, based on the project's assessment to ensure national defense and security as well as socio-economic development.

If approved, Amazon will carry out procedures to establish a business, register for investment and apply for a telecommunications license, similar to Starlink.

The Telecommunications Department also recognized that the application of satellite technology in the coming time (such as Starlink) will be an effective supplement to ground infrastructure, providing communication in areas with signal loss, and a backup support channel for connection transmission channels, which is very important in preventing and combating natural disasters.

A series of notable events are coming up

At the regular press conference held this morning, December 1, a representative of the Ministry of Science and Technology informed about the implementation of the Ho Chi Minh Prize and the 7th State Prize for Science and Technology.

According to the Ministry of Science and Technology, this is an award ceremony held every five years to recognize and honor the most outstanding contributions of Vietnamese scientific intellectuals.

For the 7th Award, the Ministry of Science and Technology said that the awarding progress at all levels has been clearly defined.

The grassroots council will organize the awarding from December 1 and complete it before December 31. Next, the ministerial council will complete the awarding before April 15, 2026.

The Ministry of Science and Technology said the 7th Ho Chi Minh Prize and State Prize for Science and Technology award ceremony is expected to be held on September 2, 2027, a special occasion on the occasion of the National Day, to honor the contributions of scientists to the country's development.

Mr. Pham Hong Quat - Director of the Agency for Startups and Technology Enterprises also shared about new points at the National Creative Startup Festival (Techfest Vietnam) in 2025.

Techfest 2025 is organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology in collaboration with the Hanoi People's Committee from December 12 to 14. The festival is expected to welcome 60,000 visitors in person and online, along with 1,200 investment funds, incubators, and 1,700 domestic and foreign startups.

According to Mr. Quat, the Hoan Kiem Lake walking street will become a meeting point for the technology and startup community. Attendees can learn about technology, explore new business models, update policies and listen to startup stories.
