Late on the afternoon of December 7, Gia Bac Pass on National Highway 28 (in Son Dien commune) was officially opened to traffic after 5 days of congestion due to serious landslides.
Mr. Vu Duc Nhuan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Son Dien commune, said that the authorities had cleared all 20 landslides and cleared fallen trees on the Km40-Km60 section and allowed traffic to move in one lane at 5:00 p.m. this afternoon.
However, according to records, many large landslide locations have only had one lane opened, making travel still potentially risky.
Therefore, authorities recommend that even though one lane has been opened, heavy trucks, tractor-trailers, containers and passenger cars should limit going through the pass at night and during rain (if any) to ensure safety.

The functional units include: Traffic Police, Police, local militia and contractors to handle the remaining soil and rock and regulate traffic 24/7. It is expected that it will take at least another week for the pass to return to a safe and stable state.
Previously, heavy rain from the afternoon of December 3 to the morning of December 4 caused about 20 landslides at Gia Bac Pass with a total volume of rock and soil up to 21,000m3, along with a large amount of fallen trees blocking the road, causing the pass to be completely paralyzed for many days.
Gia Bac Pass is more than 10km long on National Highway 28 connecting Son Dien commune with Ham Thuan Bac commune to National Highway 1A. In the opposite direction, National Highway 28 connects with National Highway 20 to Da Lat and Ho Chi Minh City.
