Người Lao ĐộngNgười Lao Động23/08/2023

On August 22, many universities across the country announced admission scores based on graduation exam scores. The lowest admission score was 15 and the highest was 29.42. Admission results showed that admission scores were still high, although many schools had lower scores, not much.

Many schools' benchmark scores are still sky-high.

This year’s admission season recorded a record high admission score for Hanoi University of Science and Technology. This year, to be admitted to the Computer Science (IT1) program at this university, candidates must achieve 29.42 points. This is also the record admission score of Hanoi University of Science and Technology in the past 5 years.

This score also caused the two top students of block A00 this year, Nguyen Manh Thang and Nguyen Manh Hung, both to score 29.35 points but both failed their first choice to enter the industry. Nguyen Manh Thang said he was quite surprised by this result. According to Thang, because this year the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) has stipulated the way to add priority points for candidates with a total score of 22.5 or higher, different from previous years, so his priority points are quite low, not enough to enter the IT1 industry.

From 2023, the priority points for candidates with a total score of 22.5 or higher will change. According to the new calculation, there will no longer be a situation of candidates with a score of over 30 points being admitted to university like in previous years.

This year, the highest standard score of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - VNU Hanoi is 28.78 in block C00 (public relations). This level is 1.17 points lower than last year (29.95). Journalism and Oriental Studies both have 28.5 points.

At the University of Natural Sciences (KHTN) - VNU-HCM, this year's admission scores are stable and not much different from 2022. In particular, the computer science major (advanced program) continues to maintain the highest standard score in the school at 28.05. Next is the artificial intelligence major with a standard score of 27 in the first year of admission according to its own code. Notably, some majors in the fields of life sciences and natural sciences have had their standard scores skyrocket compared to 2022. For example, the biology major, the high-quality biology major increased by 4 - 4.5 points; the oceanography major, the physics group, electronic physics technology and information technology increased by 2 points.

Ms. Hoang Thanh Tu, Deputy Head of the Communications Department of the University of Natural Sciences, said that in previous years, some majors in the fields of life sciences and natural sciences had low benchmark scores, but this year they increased dramatically. Typically, the benchmark score for biology last year was only 17, but this year it increased to nearly 4. According to Ms. Tu, biology and biotechnology are applied in many fields and are prioritized for investment by the state, so many candidates are interested, leading to an increase in benchmark scores.

At the University of Economics and Law, the admission scores for all majors are also from 24.06 and above. The highest admission score for e-commerce is 27.48. Two other majors of the school with admission scores above 27 are management information systems - 27.06 points, digital marketing (starting enrollment in 2023) - 27.25 points. The average admission score is calculated by training fields such as economics (25.89), business (26.04), law (25.32).

At Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education, many majors have a benchmark score of 25 or higher. Dr. Quach Thanh Hai, Head of the Training Department, said that this year's benchmark scores have increased in all majors, with some majors increasing by more than 2 points.

Meanwhile, the benchmark scores in many schools have decreased slightly. At the University of Finance and Marketing, the benchmark scores for all majors are above 21. The school representative said that this year's scores have decreased slightly from 0.2 to 1 point depending on the major, while some majors in the tourism sector have increased slightly from 0.4 to 1 point. In particular, the high-quality full English program for all 3 majors has increased from 0.3 to 1.5 points.

Explaining the phenomenon of increasing admission scores at many universities, an admissions expert said that currently, schools are using many admission methods such as considering academic records, assessing abilities, considering high school graduation exam scores... With early admission methods, many schools have called a large number of successful candidates, so the remaining quota for considering high school graduation exam scores is not much. Therefore, the admission score must increase, even increase sharply. On the contrary, schools that still reserve a large proportion of their quota for considering high school graduation exam scores have basically unchanged admission scores.

Health block decreased, history pedagogy increased

This year, the benchmark for the health sector also dropped significantly. Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine has the highest benchmark score of 26.31 for the medical sector, while the public health sector has the lowest benchmark score - only 18.35.

Similarly, the benchmark scores for most majors at Hanoi University of Pharmacy have decreased compared to last year. The benchmark scores range from 23.81 to 25. The highest benchmark score for pharmacy is 24, followed by pharmaceutical chemistry with 24.9 points and biotechnology with 24.21, while chemistry has the lowest score of 23.81 points.

The major with the highest benchmark score of Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy is medicine, at only 25.52. The highest score is 26.25 for the dental - maxillofacial - facial major of Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy, followed by 26 points for medicine, 24.7 points for pharmacy, 24.25 points for medical testing techniques; the remaining majors range from 19 to 21.25 points.

Associate Professor Nguyen Duc Son, Vice Principal of Hanoi National University of Education, said that this year, the history education major had the highest score, up to 28. According to Associate Professor Nguyen Duc Son, the reason was that the quota for the high school graduation exam score method had decreased, while 16 students who won national history prizes had registered for this major at the school and had been admitted in advance through direct admission.

The history pedagogy major of Thai Nguyen University of Education also recorded a very high admission score - 28. Following that was the literature pedagogy major with 26.85 points, and the geography pedagogy major with 26.73 points.

According to initial records, this year, the admission scores for most majors of the top schools have not changed much compared to last year. Associate Professor Nguyen Thu Thuy, Director of the Department of Higher Education - Ministry of Education and Training, said that in general, the admission scores of the schools are similar to 2022. The new point in this year's admission is thanks to the optimization of data used for admission of candidates when only needing to register according to the training major. The rate of successful candidates has increased positively throughout the system.

Associate Professor Nguyen Thu Thuy assessed that the admission results generally did not have too high a benchmark score, due to the application of priority points according to the admission regulations (effective from 2023) and the optimization of the selection of admission combinations for candidates.

Confirm admission before September 8

According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, immediately after schools announce the admission scores and list of successful candidates, candidates must confirm their admission on the ministry's information portal before September 8. After this time, candidates who do not confirm their admission will be considered to have refused admission.
