Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son works with Thai Nguyen province on overcoming damage from storm No. 3

On September 14, Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son and a working delegation from the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) and the Vietnam Education Trade Union visited and worked with Thai Nguyen province on overcoming damage caused by storm No. 3.

Here, the delegation visited and presented gifts at Tuc Duyen Kindergarten, Tuc Duyen Secondary School ( Thai Nguyen city) and worked with the Department of Education and Training of Thai Nguyen province.

Principal of Tuc Duyen Secondary School Nguyen Thi Sau said: In the 2024-2025 school year, the school has 37 staff, teachers, employees and 15 classrooms with a total of 600 students. After storm No. 3, the entire school campus was flooded to a depth of about 1.5m, including the entire classroom area, functional rooms, the entire principal's office area, school yard, and gymnasium, causing severe damage to the school's facilities.

Currently, the school's teachers and staff have been cleaning and sanitizing classrooms, repairing equipment, facilities, and learning materials at the school to gradually restore and ensure safety to welcome students back to school as soon as possible.

Tuc Duyen Kindergarten is located near the whirlpool during storm No. 3, so toys and equipment outside the classroom were washed away. Principal Do Thi Thanh Thao shared that the physical facilities in the classrooms, documents, and electronic equipment at the school were flooded and severely damaged. Up to now, the school has cleaned up the mud, cleaned the inside and outside of the classrooms and functional rooms, cleaned and disinfected, ensuring safety and is expected to let children return to school on September 16.

Reporting at the working session with the delegation, Director of Thai Nguyen Department of Education and Training Pham Viet Duc informed: As of September 13, the whole province had 2 students killed, 93 schools were damaged by storm No. 3 with an estimated loss of more than 23 billion VND. Of which, there were 116 classrooms, 14 functional rooms, 2 dormitories, 6 dining rooms, 6 kitchens and 79 other auxiliary works.

Immediately after storm No. 3 passed, the Department of Education and Training directed units to coordinate with relevant authorities to proactively inspect the damage situation, mobilize forces, materials, and means on the spot to overcome the consequences, and at the same time propagate to continue implementing measures to reinforce and brace other assets and facilities... to respond to rain and floods after the storm and ensure safety when natural disasters continue to occur.

The Department of Education and Training and the Education and Training Trade Union visited and provided essential food for 80 students of the Specialized High School who stayed in the school dormitory because they could not return home at the time the school was isolated due to rising flood waters; visited and encouraged teachers and staff of schools and people in the flooded areas of Thai Nguyen City, Phu Binh District, Pho Yen City, etc.

The Departments of Education and Training have urgently advised local authorities to direct and complete the work of overcoming the damage caused by storm No. 3, rain, and floods after the storm ateducational institutions, with the determination to soon bring students back to school and organize educational activities according to the 2024-2025 school year plan.

Flood recovery work, especially in Thai Nguyen city, has been supported by the government, local agencies, local military forces, Youth Union, teachers of schools, and localities that were not flooded. Flooded educational facilities have been cleaned and disinfected.

The delegation presented support to the Education sector of Thai Nguyen province.

Sharing the difficulties and losses, and appreciating the urgent and timely recovery of damage caused by storm No. 3, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son requested Thai Nguyen province to continue reviewing, coordinating, supporting, and recovering damage caused by the storm and floods. In particular, it is necessary to review the facilities, ensure safety, and ensure adequate equipment before welcoming students back to school.

The Deputy Minister also reminded the Education Department of Thai Nguyen province about the important and necessary role of preparing facilities and skills to respond to unexpected situations, storms, floods and natural disasters for teachers, students and society in the province.

In Thai Nguyen, a working delegation from the Ministry of Education and Training and the Vietnam Education Trade Union presented support to the Thai Nguyen province education sector, schools that suffered damage, and families of students who died due to storm No. 3.
