Attending the working session between the Deputy Minister and the Ambassador of Burkina Faso were representatives from the following departments: Department of Foreign Market Development, Import-Export Department, and Trade Promotion Department.
During the meeting, Deputy Minister Truong Thanh Hoai happily informed Ambassador Daouda BITIE about the economic development achievements that Vietnam has attained in 2025. The structure of key industries has shifted positively towards a comprehensive and modern direction. Trade is a highlight, reaching a record high of US$920 billion, a 17% increase compared to 2024; of which exports reached US$470 billion and imports reached US$450 billion. Regarding international economic integration, Vietnam has signed, implemented, and is currently negotiating a total of 19 Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), of which 17 have already been signed. The Deputy Minister affirmed that Vietnam is a market with great potential for cooperation in trade, industry, and energy in Burkina Faso. The Deputy Minister also highly appreciated the achievements that Burkina Faso has attained under the leadership of Mr. Ibrahim TRAORE.

Deputy Minister Truong Thanh Hoai held a working meeting with the Ambassador of Burkina Faso to China, who is also accredited to Vietnam.
Regarding trade relations with Burkina Faso, Deputy Minister Truong Thanh Hoai stated that, during the period 2020-2024, the total import and export turnover between the two countries averaged nearly 95 million USD per year. However, this turnover is not commensurate with the inherent potential of both sides. Exports from each country to the other's market currently account for only a small proportion, less than 0.05%. Industrial cooperation remains limited and requires continued guidance and support for businesses to connect.
To promote trade cooperation between the two countries, based on leveraging the potential and strengths of each economy, Deputy Minister Truong Thanh Hoai proposed that the two sides coordinate the implementation of several cooperation contents such as: (i) promoting the exchange of delegations at all levels to provide each other with information on markets, mechanisms, and economic and trade policies of each country; (ii) organizing trade activities in each other's markets and inviting organizations and businesses from Burkina Faso to participate in annual international trade events in Vietnam; (iii) promoting trade in potential areas where Vietnam has advantages and Burkina Faso has a large demand, such as rice, agricultural machinery, electrical equipment, construction materials, household goods, textiles, etc.; (iv) researching cooperation in the fields of mining, textiles, agricultural and food processing, chemicals, fertilizers, and ensuring food security.
Thanking Deputy Minister Truong Thanh Hoai for the warm welcome and sharing, Mr. Daouda BITIE expressed his honor to be invited to attend the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam and to work with the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade. Congratulating Vietnam on its achievements in 2025, the Ambassador stated that Burkina Faso has just undergone a comprehensive revolution and wishes to deepen economic and trade cooperation with Vietnam. Burkina Faso is studying and learning from Vietnam's experience in national development, focusing on key sectors such as agriculture (to ensure food security), basic industrial production, and attracting investment and technology transfer. Burkina Faso currently has a great need for importing rice and oil and gas, and for producing motorcycles and spare parts to serve the domestic market.

Deputy Minister Truong Thanh Hoai and leaders of units under the Ministry took a commemorative photo with the delegation from the Embassy of Burkina Faso in China, which also covers Vietnam.
Acknowledging the proposals of Ambassador Daouda BITIE, and given that Vietnam and Burkina Faso have not yet established diplomatic missions in each other's countries, to ensure effective coordination, Deputy Minister Truong Thanh Hoai suggested that the two sides appoint a focal point (the Foreign Market Development Department of the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade) to initially exchange information, and based on that, explore promoting the exchange of technical and business delegations. Regarding rice trade cooperation, the Deputy Minister suggested that the two sides study the possibility of negotiating a memorandum of understanding and assign the Import-Export Department of the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade as the focal point for implementation. For other commodities, the Deputy Minister invited the Burkina Faso side to organize a working delegation to Vietnam, combining this with facilitating the participation of businesses in trade fairs and exhibitions so that the Ministry of Industry and Trade can support the connection process.
Ambassador Daouda BITIE stated that he will closely coordinate with the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade and relevant domestic agencies to promote the resolution of the issues raised by Deputy Minister Truong Thanh Hoai.
