Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited, presented gifts, and extended New Year greetings to patients receiving emergency treatment; he encouraged the patients to have peace of mind during treatment and to recover quickly so they could return to their families.
Deeply moved by his visit to the two hospitals on the last day of the Year of the Snake – a time when everyone longs to return home to reunite with their families – the Prime Minister expressed his gratitude and shared his understanding of the hardships, sacrifices, and pressures faced by doctors, nurses, and medical staff nationwide, especially during holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year).

During the inspection, the Prime Minister highly appreciated the preparations and readiness for the Tet holiday at the two hospitals, noting "5 improvements": cleaner facilities; better equipment; more scientific organization; patients and their families feeling more cheerful; the hospitals' reputations increasing; and the staff and doctors always united and cohesive.
Emphasizing their role as leading hospitals in terms of expertise and the last line of defense in saving lives, representing the greatest hope of patients, the Prime Minister urged hospitals to recognize this as a responsibility, a source of pride, and a glorious historical mission to treat patients.
"With a glimmer of hope, patients think of Bach Mai Hospital for internal medicine cases and Viet Duc Hospital for surgical cases. When a person's last glimmer of hope appears, they think of Bach Mai Hospital and Viet Duc Hospital. This is also the title I consider the most noble, more so than any other title," the Prime Minister shared.
On behalf of the Government, the Prime Minister acknowledged, commended, and highly appreciated the achievements of the health sector in general and of Bach Mai Hospital and Viet Duc Hospital in particular in caring for and protecting the health and lives of the people in the past period, making an important contribution to the overall achievements of the whole country.
The head of the government also requested the Ministry of Health, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, and Bach Mai Hospital to develop plans for the most effective exploitation and use of their second facilities; paying particular attention to the quality of human resources, arranging transportation and accommodation for staff, and most importantly, continuing to preserve and promote the brand of the two hospitals.

The Prime Minister also directed the continued upgrading of facilities and the replanning of existing facilities to be clean, beautiful, and spacious; emphasizing that tertiary hospitals need to invest in the most modern equipment, "doing everything properly and effectively," but in a spirit of openness, transparency, and prevention of corruption, negative practices, and waste.
Viet Duc Hospital, with its abundant human resources, should be ready to supplement and support other hospitals when needed. Regarding nutrition for surgical patients, the Prime Minister requested Viet Duc Hospital to allocate funds to provide meals for patients and their families during the three days of Tet (Lunar New Year).
The Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Health and the People's Committees of provinces and cities, as well as hospitals, to try to arrange funding to provide free meals for three days during Tet (January 29, February 1, and February 2) for patients and their families at hospitals nationwide.
Agreeing in principle with Bach Mai Hospital's proposal regarding infrastructure development, the Prime Minister requested that the upgrading of Bach Mai Medical College into Bach Mai University of Medicine and Pharmacy be completed in the first quarter of 2026. Regarding the proposals of Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, the Prime Minister requested that the Ministry of Health provide regular financial support to the hospital in accordance with established principles to better serve the people.
