Professor, Doctor Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai was born in 1974 in Quang Ngai province; she graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from the University of Ho Chi Minh City (now the University of Science , Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City) in 1996.
In 2002, Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai went to Japan to pursue a postgraduate research program at Toyama University School of Medicine and Pharmacy and received her PhD in Pharmacy in 2005.
In 2021, she was appointed Vice Rector of the University of Science and from 2022 she also served as Principal of the High School for the Gifted, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City.
Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai was recognized as Associate Professor in 2014, Professor in 2020, and was awarded the title of Excellent Teacher in 2024.
On June 12, 2024, Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai was appointed as Vice Director of the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City.
In October 2025, at the 17th Conference of the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai was recognized as a TWAS Fellow.
