(Chinhphu.vn) – At noon on 27/10 (local time, afternoon of the same day Hanoi time), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, his wife and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation arrived in the capital Abu Dhabi, beginning an official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the invitation of UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
To pick up Prime minister Pham Minh Chinh, Madam Le Thi Bich Tran and the Vietnamese delegation at Zayed International Airport included the Minister of State in charge of foreign trade of the Ministry of Economy, UAE Minister of State for Talent Acquisition Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi; UAE Ambassador to Vietnam Bader Abdulla Almatrooshi and UAE officials. On the Vietnamese side, there were Vietnamese Ambassador to the UAE Nguyen Thanh Diep, officials and staff of the Embassy.
During a brief meeting with Minister and Minister of State Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi at the airport, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his pleasure to visit the UAE. Minister and Minister of State Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi expressed his great pleasure to welcome the Prime Minister to the UAE, assessing this as an important milestone in bilateral relations and thanking the Prime Minister for his strong direction to ministries and sectors to promote cooperation with the UAE.
Minister and Minister of State Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi stressed that the UAE attaches importance to its relations with Vietnam, highly appreciates Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements and growing position; and expressed his belief that the Prime Minister's visit will be a great success with important results.
This is the first official visit of a Vietnamese Prime Minister to the UAE in 15 years. The visit is of special significance in consolidating political trust; enhancing the breadth and depth of Vietnam's relations with the UAE, creating momentum and expanding a new phase of cooperation between Vietnam and the UAE, especially in attracting UAE investment to Vietnam and creating a breakthrough for Vietnamese goods and services to access the Gulf market.
During the visit, Prime Minister Goverment will have talks with the highest leaders of the UAE; receive ministers, leaders of investment funds and large corporations of the UAE; deliver important policy speeches conveying messages about Vietnam's development orientation and foreign policy; meet the Vietnamese community in the UAE...
The UAE is the second largest economy in the Gulf region; a leading financial and commercial center in the Middle East; the 4th largest oil producer in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
The UAE is moving towards sustainable development, establishing a leading position in new development trends in the world. world, implementing the “UAE Vision 2031” (We the UAE 2031), aiming to make the UAE a global economic hub and a model of successful development in the world.
The UAE plays an important role in the Middle East – North Africa region; promoting ties with the Arab bloc and the Gulf region. In recent years, the UAE has actively implemented the “Look East” policy, attaching importance to relations with Asian countries, including Vietnam.
The relationship between Vietnam and the UAE is developing well with many substantial results. The two countries share a common understanding of the importance of soon elevating bilateral relations to a new level, commensurate with the potential, economic scale and expectations of both sides.
The UAE is currently Vietnam's largest export market in the Middle East - Africa region, with bilateral trade turnover reaching 2023 billion USD in 4,7. In the first 7 months of 2024, Vietnam exported 3,37 billion USD to the UAE, up 51% over the same period in 2023.
The two countries initiated negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in the month of June 2023 and are expected to complete negotiations and sign the CEPA during the Prime Minister's visit.
As of June 2024, the UAE has 41 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects in Vietnam with a total registered investment capital of 71,6 million USD. The potential to attract investment from the UAE is still very large as this country owns many of the largest FDI investment funds in the world, of which the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority manages 853 billion USD, the fourth largest investment fund in the world; the Dubai Investment Corporation manages 320,8 billion USD, ranking 12th in the world; the Mubadala Investment Company manages 276 billion USD, ranking 13th in the world...
Vietnam currently has about 3.000 workers in the UAE. The two sides actively coordinate and support each other in international forums. Recently, the UAE supported Vietnam to join the United Nations Security Council for the 2020-2021 term and the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2023-2025 term.
