Although quite surprising, this was a predicted move after opposition leader Benny Gantz left the cabinet including the opposition to serve Israel's military campaign in Gaza.

After disbanding the war cabinet, Netanyahu is expected to hold meetings on the war in Gaza with a smaller group, including Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, who was in the war cabinet.
The Israeli prime minister has recently faced demands from the religious-nationalist faction in his ruling coalition, including Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, to be included in the war cabinet.
However, this could increase tensions between Israel and its allies, including the United States, as the religious-nationalist faction with extremist ideology wants to carry out more fierce campaigns in Gaza than at present.
Israel's war cabinet was formed after opposition leader Gantz agreed to temporarily join Netanyahu's coalition in October. It also includes some of Gantz's coalition partners.
Recent polls show Mr Gantz, a former defence minister, as Mr Netanyahu’s biggest political rival. The leader of the opposition National Unity Party has called for early elections this fall.
Mr Gantz's opponents all left the war cabinet last week, over what they said was Prime Minister Netanyahu's failure to handle the war in Gaza.
