On the morning of January 17 (local time), during his official visit to Poland, in Warsaw, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Mr. Michal Fijol - Acting Chairman of the Board of Directors of LOT Airlines of Poland.
LOT Airlines is the national airline of Poland and a founding member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). LOT is known as one of the world's oldest airlines still in operation. As of August 2024, LOT has a fleet of 80 aircraft and is the 18th largest airline in Europe, serving 105 domestic and international destinations across Europe, Asia and North America.
At the meeting, congratulating Vietnam's great achievements in economic development in general and the aviation industry in particular, LOT leaders affirmed the great development potential of the aviation industry in Vietnam.
Mr. Michal Fijol said that in 2010, LOT opened a new route from Warsaw to Hanoi. This is a route that has not been effectively exploited by European airlines, but LOT initially achieved many successes. However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Warsaw-Hanoi route has been temporarily suspended since 2020.
Now that the situation has returned to normal and with a history of good cooperation with Vietnam, LOT is interested in restoring business relations with Vietnam, specifically re-operating the Warsaw - Hanoi route.
The airline is also operating charter flights between Warsaw and Phu Quoc and in 2024 alone, it brought 15,000 Polish tourists to Vietnam.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh welcomed LOT’s effective business performance in recent times despite fluctuations in the world situation; highly appreciated the cooperation between Vietnam Airlines and LOT in passenger transport and cargo transportation services.
Emphasizing that aviation plays a very important role in connecting, integrating, promoting cultural and people-to-people exchanges, the Prime Minister said that the Vietnam-Poland relationship continues to develop well, Vietnam has many advantages to develop the aviation sector, these are good foundations to continue promoting economic-investment-trade cooperation activities between the business communities of the two countries, including aviation businesses.
Taking note of the LOT Group's proposals regarding re-exploitation of the Vietnamese market, the Prime Minister stated that this did not encounter any obstacles. Vietnam is currently building new airports such as Long Thanh airport and expanding Tan Son Nhat, Phu Quoc, Nha Trang airports. The Prime Minister will assign Vietnamese agencies to immediately handle LOT's proposals according to regulations.
The Prime Minister suggested that LOT take the lead in reopening flights to Vietnam and continue to cooperate with Vietnam Airlines to operate flights, including charter flights, to bring tourists to famous tourist destinations in Vietnam such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, Ha Long, Phu Quoc, etc., as well as to countries in the region following the model of "one route, many destinations". LOT can be an extension of Vietnam Airlines in Central and Eastern Europe, while Vietnam Airlines is an extension of LOT in Southeast Asia, the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister also asked LOT to continue to closely coordinate with Vietnam Airlines and relevant agencies to exchange and answer questions about relevant information as well as seek opportunities to expand the market in Vietnam.
The Vietnamese Government is committed to always creating favorable conditions, in accordance with the provisions of law, for the group in particular and Polish investors in general to invest and do business effectively and sustainably, in accordance with the provisions of law in Vietnam.
