Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh arrives in Bucharest, begins official visit to Romania

Vietnam established diplomatic relations with Romania on February 3, 1950. From 1950 to 1989, Romania provided aid and loans to Vietnam to develop a number of economic sectors. After Romania changed its political regime (December 1989), the two countries continued to develop their traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh , his wife and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation have arrived in Bucharest, beginning an official visit to Romania.

Since 1990, Vietnam and Romania have signed many documents creating a legal framework for cooperation in the new period... Vietnam's main export items are: coffee, seafood, pepper, textiles, leather shoes, computer components. Vietnam's main import items are: chemicals, fertilizers, construction steel, plastic beads, oil and gas drilling equipment, wood products... Since 2010, Romania has been ranked among Vietnam's major seafood export markets (about 12,000 tons/year).

Speaking to the press ahead of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit, Romanian Ambassador to Vietnam Cristina Romila said that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to Romania is deeply symbolic, highlighting the strong people-to-people ties between the two countries, which have become the foundation for bilateral relations over the past 74 years.

"We are honored that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh graduated from university in Romania. Many mutually beneficial areas will create favorable conditions for the visit to be successful and substantive. We expect new progress in bilateral legal cooperation projects and frameworks," the ambassador said.

Delegates and overseas Vietnamese welcome Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, his wife and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation on an official visit to Romania.

People-to-people diplomacy between the two countries has also made significant progress after the Covid-19 pandemic. The two sides have regularly promoted cultural, academic and business exchanges. Representatives from more than 30 Romanian universities have visited Vietnam in the past two years; the famous Bucharest Symphony Orchestra will perform in Vietnam in 2022 and 2023 at the Hanoi Opera House and Da Lat (Lam Dong). Several economic delegations have visited Vietnam in the past year, seeking new opportunities to deepen and diversify bilateral economic cooperation.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, his wife and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation pay an official visit to Romania for 3 days.

The Vietnamese community in Romania currently has about 650 people, mainly doing garment business at Dragon shopping center in the capital Bucharest. The community has organized the Vietnamese Association and the Vietnamese Business Association in Romania.
