He is a genius leader of the world workers' movement; a close friend of peace-loving and progressive peoples around the world; and also a great cultural figure, deeply understanding the values of truth, goodness, beauty and the noble nature of human beings.
With such great contributions of President Ho Chi Minh, the United Nations Organization UNESCO honored him as "National Liberation Hero, Outstanding Cultural Celebrity of Vietnam", and at the same time honored him as one of the "outstanding figures who left their mark on the development process of humanity".
Going back in history, in 1912, on his journey to find a way to save the country, President Ho Chi Minh, then a young man named Nguyen Tat Thanh, set foot in Rio de Janeiro. Although his stay here was not long, the valuable experiences in this city contributed significantly to the formation of his noble revolutionary ideology - towards independence, freedom and happiness for the Vietnamese people.
During his stay, Nguyen Tat Thanh worked at a restaurant in the Lapa area - where the upper class gathered, and lived at a boarding house in Santa Teresa - an area of poor workers.
Here, he not only observed but also participated in social activities, connected with local workers and absorbed progressive ideas. The meeting with Mr. José Leandro da Silva - a black union leader, left a deep impression on him. It was these experiences and contacts that helped Nguyen Tat Thanh deeply perceive injustice and oppression, thereby nurturing the ideal of fighting for independence and freedom.
President Ho Chi Minh’s journey to Rio de Janeiro is a vivid demonstration of the special bond between Vietnam and Brazil. Despite the geographical distance, our two peoples still share the same aspiration for freedom, equality and independence. His immortal declaration: “Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom” has a special resonance with the famous saying of Prince Pedro I: “Independence or death”.
More than 7 months ago, on November 17, 2024, on the occasion of attending the G20 Summit in Brazil, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife attended the inauguration ceremony of the Commemorative Sign honoring President Ho Chi Minh in Santa Teresa, Rio de Janeiro city.
This important event is a testament to the efforts of the Government and people of Vietnam and Brazil in preserving and promoting noble historical values. The bronze plaque not only honors President Ho Chi Minh but also serves as an important bridge to bring the people of the two countries closer together, together building a prosperous and sustainable future.

The placement of the Ho Chi Minh Memorial Plaque not only honors him, but also pays tribute to his contributions to the friendship between the two countries and is a highlight of the good relations between our two countries. The Ho Chi Minh Memorial Plaque in Rio de Janeiro, where cultures intersect, will become a meaningful destination, a "red address" for the young generations of the two countries to learn about history, continue and preserve the noble values he left behind.
Today, the Vietnam-Brazil relationship is constantly being strengthened and developed. Brazil is currently Vietnam's largest trading partner in South America, and the relationship between the two countries is increasingly deepening and becoming more effective in many areas.
In addition, Vietnam and Brazil have many similarities, such as both countries have diverse, rich and unique cultures; both share values of resilience, creativity and love for peace. These foundations will continue to promote bilateral cooperation in many areas such as agriculture, technology, tourism and cultural exchange.
