Hanoi Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese met with Vietnamese women's and Australian U20 players during an exchange today.
The Australian U20 women's football team trained with members of the Vietnam national women's team today at the United Nations International School (UNIS) Hanoi, in an activity attended by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

At the event, the two Prime Ministers emphasized the important role of sports in empowering women and girls, helping them to reach their full potential. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his counterpart Albanese also expressed their delight at the participation of both countries' teams in the upcoming 2023 Women's World Cup.
The two Prime Ministers listened to the experiences and challenges the female players went through to achieve their dreams. The two teams also presented their jerseys to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Prime Minister Albanese.

Vietnam women's national team players attended the event to say goodbye before leaving for Germany to train and prepare for the World Cup.
The 2023 Women's World Cup, taking place in Australia and New Zealand from July 20 to August 20, will be the first to feature 32 teams. The Vietnamese women's team is in Group E with defending champions the United States, runners-up the Netherlands and Portugal. Hosts Australia are in Group B with Ireland, Nigeria and Canada.
"Sport is an important part of Vietnamese and Australian culture. We want to encourage the development of sport for women and girls, demonstrate the power of sport to change lives and promote gender equality," said Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrew Goledzinovski.
Prime Minister Albanese arrived in Hanoi on the morning of June 3, beginning a two-day official visit to Vietnam. This is his first visit to Vietnam since taking office in May 2022. The visit takes place in the context of Vietnam and Australia celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

Vietnam and Australia established diplomatic relations in February 1973, then upgraded to a strategic partnership in March 2018.
At a press conference after talks at the government headquarters on the morning of June 4, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam is ready to work with Australia to bring the strategic partnership to a new level, for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
