The Uva Legend Scene is a new tourism product within the framework of the Ban Flower Festival and the opening of the Dien Bien National Tourism Year 2024.
With a duration of nearly 40 minutes, the show brings visitors stories of the Thai people from ancient and legendary marks to cultural features associated with the life of this ethnic group.
A live stage was set up right on the yard of the Uva Village Cultural House with typical mountain and forest scenery of Dien Bien , such as Uva lake, water wheel, phalaenopsis, ditch, lai, lin, pang tree, ban flower tree, rice fields...
The live show is also a special performance by more than 50 women in Noong Luong commune with professional actors - Photo: TRAN DUNG
The special feature of this live show is the participation of a large number of extras from Noong Luong commune (56 people) along with 20 professional actors. They recreated historical legends and unique folk dances of the Thai people in Uva village in particular and the Thai people, Dien Bien province in general.
The Legend of Uva is a continuous story with three chapters linked together by Thai culture.
Chapter 1 tells the legend of the Thai people and Uva (the legend of the gourd), the ancient marks of the Thai people. Meanwhile, chapter 2 recalls the legend of the scarf Pieu (praising love and the legend of Khau Cut) and the legend of the Ban flower, a typical flower of Dien Bien.
The falling scarf grows a white flower symbolizing loyalty and love, that flower is called Hoa Ban.
Chapter 3 focuses on highlighting Thai rituals and culture and the connection between the present and the past through a reenactment of the Xen Pang festival, thanking ancestors, heaven and earth, and dancing around the pang tree (large flower tree).
As one of 56 non-professional actors, Ms. Vi Thi Phuong - Uva village, Noong Luong commune, Dien Bien - said that after a period of practice, her movements gradually became smoother and her steps became more graceful.
Seeing that the show had great significance for the local people, Ms. Phuong proactively arranged her family work to participate. Performing in public for the first time, she was nervous but determined with the desire to convey the cultural beauty of her people to tourists.
The show received the attention of many tourists coming to Dien Bien.
The live show Uva Legend will be performed at many times from March 13 to March 17 at the Uva Village Cultural House, Noong Luong Commune, Dien Bien District.
Uva is a corruption of the word "ú vá". "Ú" means "grandmother", "vá" means "cradle". Legend has it that Uva village has a beautiful landscape, especially a poetic mineral stream, so in the past fairies often came down to earth to bathe in the stream, teaching the villagers how to grow mulberry and raise silkworms. Therefore, the locals compare the mineral stream to a beautiful cradle for the fairies to rest.
Within the framework of the National Tourism Year - Dien Bien 2024, 169 programs and events will take place; including 13 national programs and events organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, ministries, departments and central branches; Dien Bien province will organize 28 programs, events and activities; 128 events and activities will be organized by 33 provinces and centrally run cities.
