Promoting businesses to join hands in sustainable poverty reduction

In the context of digital technology becoming a new driving force for economic growth, the application of science and technology to labor and production is opening up a sustainable approach to poverty reduction. Many practical technological solutions have been deployed to narrow the development gap between regions, creating a foundation for people, especially in difficult areas, to have more opportunities to escape poverty.

Bringing digital knowledge and digital livelihoods to people through technology

Over the years, the problem of poverty reduction in Vietnam has shifted from short-term support to improving people’s access to knowledge, markets and services. Digital technology has become a key factor in that process.

Typically, VNPT is one of the pioneers in bringing digital infrastructure and services to even the most remote places. VNPT's telecommunications network now covers the whole country, helping people in mountainous districts, remote areas to access broadband Internet and stable mobile networks. To date, 100% of communes, wards and towns have broadband networks; Vinaphone network covers 99% of the population and 34/34 provinces and cities have 5G waves. VNPT not only develops infrastructure but also builds a digital solution ecosystem to support production and livelihoods.

For example, Smart Agri helps farmers cultivate more efficiently; OneBiz expands the market for agricultural products; VNPT Money facilitates safe payments for people without bank accounts. These efforts show that the business sector is making a significant contribution to realizing the goals and orientations in the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction and the National Digital Transformation Program.

The results achieved show that technology, if deployed in the right direction, can create strong changes in the socio-economic life in disadvantaged areas. In the coming time, large enterprises such as VNPT, Viettel, FPT, CMC are expected to continue to expand infrastructure investment, develop digital platforms for rural areas, improve community digital skills and promote technological solutions for production. This is also a way to ensure an important goal: building an inclusive digital society, where everyone has the opportunity to access technology and escape poverty sustainably.

Promote stronger participation from the private sector

However, to expand the impact and create a stronger spread, the proactive participation of many private enterprises in the digital ecosystem is needed. Because only when enterprises join hands to invest in infrastructure, provide services and develop technology solutions suitable to the needs of each locality, the process of narrowing the digital gap can be accelerated and sustainable.

In addition to large corporations, start-up businesses, especially in the field of high-tech agriculture, also need to be facilitated to participate more deeply in the process of rural digital transformation. This is a creative group, capable of providing flexible solutions such as precision agriculture, traceability, IoT sensors or crop forecasting models.

Recently, a series of national-scale projects such as Project 844 supporting the innovative startup ecosystem, Project to support women in startups, Project to support students in startups, Program to support youth startups or policies to promote the sharing economy model... are creating a multi-layered support network, from training, consulting, infrastructure, international connections to communication and market connection. In the near future, when the National Innovative Startup Project is completed, people are also expecting that it will spread the entrepreneurial spirit widely among the people, the whole society, in all regions and fields...

Encouraging private enterprises to participate also contributes to creating a healthy competitive environment, promoting innovation, diversifying digital products and providing more choices for people in disadvantaged areas, contributing to sustainable poverty reduction. This will be an important driving force for technology to truly become a new driving force for development, spreading widely to all groups of residents and strengthening the goal of "leaving no one behind" in the process of sustainable poverty reduction.
