According to the report of the Customs Branch of Region VIII, in the first 6 months of the year, the total volume of agricultural products exported through the area reached 319,500 tons, worth 350 million USD, an increase of 54% in output and 35% in value over the same period in 2024. Of which, at the Km3+4 opening, Mong Cai 3 ward reached 247,200 tons, worth 283 million USD, an increase of 125% in quantity and 119% in value over the same period in 2024, accounting for 77% of the total volume of agricultural products cleared through customs.
Notably, for the first time, Vietnam successfully exported a batch of frozen durian to China via Bac Luan II border gate on May 30. This is a turning point that opens up new opportunities for the Vietnamese fruit industry, especially in the context of fresh durian facing technical and seasonal difficulties when exporting to the Chinese market. Diversifying export products from fresh to frozen, freeze-dried, and deep-processed not only helps increase added value but also helps businesses be more proactive in the face of policy and market fluctuations.
In order to create maximum conditions for businesses and people in agricultural export activities, recently, authorities at all levels and functional forces in Quang Ninh province have deployed many synchronous and effective solutions.
Immediately after the Government issued Official Dispatches No. 59 and 71/CD-TTg on ensuring the consumption and export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products, especially durian, the Customs Sub-Department of Region VIII promptly directed units to create maximum conditions for agricultural products to be cleared quickly. The Sub-Department also issued Official Dispatch No. 6491/CHQ-GSQL requesting units to prioritize the handling of agricultural products, minimize administrative procedures and promptly handle arising problems.
Border gates with strengths in agricultural product export such as Bac Luan II, Km3+4 opening, Bac Phong Sinh and Hoanh Mo are all staffed 24/7, including weekends and holidays to ensure that the flow of goods is not interrupted...
The Customs Branch of Region VIII has closely coordinated with border guards, quarantine forces, warehouse businesses and Chinese Customs to regulate vehicles, reasonably divide traffic, and minimize congestion at border gates - especially during peak agricultural harvest seasons.
In addition, the authorities also proactively disseminate to businesses about traceability requirements, labeling standards, quarantine procedures, and regulations of importing countries, helping businesses prepare valid documents from the beginning, avoiding returns or customs clearance delays.
Along with facilitating, customs forces also strengthen inspection and quality supervision of vulnerable goods such as cassava starch, dried fruits, etc. to prevent smuggling, trade fraud or bringing poor quality goods into the export chain, affecting the reputation of Vietnamese goods in the international market.
To continue promoting growth momentum and expanding the scale of agricultural exports through the area, Quang Ninh province has directed localities and functional sectors to focus on implementing key solutions, prioritizing the development of specialized logistics infrastructure for agricultural products. Accelerating the construction of an agricultural logistics service center at the border gate area, accelerating the construction of smart border gates, and applying digital technology in the inspection and customs clearance process to increase processing efficiency.
Encourage businesses to invest in clean raw material areas, apply HACCP, VietGAP, GlobalGAP standards, as well as invest in deep processing technology (nitrogen freezing, freeze-drying, smart packaging, etc.) to increase export value and meet the strict requirements of major markets; regularly organize consultation conferences between customs and businesses to listen to difficulties, remove obstacles, and update information on new policies from other countries. This is a very effective form of "accompanying businesses", helping to build trust and promote public-private linkages in exports.
Quang Ninh, with the advantage of being the “gateway” of the whole North, is proving its leading role in Vietnam’s agricultural exports. With close coordination between the government, businesses and functional forces, agricultural exports through Quang Ninh will certainly continue to make breakthroughs, contributing to the completion of Vietnam’s target of 8 billion USD in fruit and vegetable exports in 2025.
