E-commerce for agricultural products - Expanding the consumption of high-tech products

In the context of strong development of high-tech agriculture, agricultural product consumption is still a "bottleneck" that farmers, cooperatives and enterprises are constantly looking for ways to solve. Previously, output depended heavily on traders or traditional distribution contracts, but now, e-commerce opens up opportunities for direct, transparent and widespread sales, helping Tay Ninh agricultural products reach domestic and international markets, increasing product value.

Sweet and sour lotus products of Tam lotus farm (Tan Thanh commune) are introduced on e-commerce platforms, helping to expand the market and increase brand awareness.

Bringing products to market

Recently, many businesses and enterprises have boldly put their products on e-commerce platforms such as Alibaba.com, Lazada, Shopee, Sendo, Tiki, Voso, Postmart, and at the same time joined local platforms connected to the unified e-commerce platform of the Ministry of Industry and Trade .

Priority items are agricultural products, processed products, OCOP products and typical products of the province. This is an important step to help products reach consumers directly, while enhancing brand reputation.

The Tam lotus farm business (Tan Thanh commune) has sweet and sour lotus products advertised on the e-commerce platforms of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Business owner Vo Van Tam shared that putting products on the platform not only helps expand the market but also requires the facility to standardize production processes, labels, images and traceability information.

“This process is time-consuming but brings clear results, helping the product gain prestige and expand customers in many provinces, especially big cities,” said Mr. Tam.

Similarly, Chanh Viet Trading and Investment Joint Stock Company, which specializes in providing seedless lemons and lemon-based products, has also recorded effectiveness thanks to e-commerce. Nguyen Van Hien, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Chanh Viet Trading and Investment Joint Stock Company, said that participating in major e-commerce platforms helps the company reach new customers, enhance brand reputation, and increase sales in many provinces and cities. Product standardization and information transparency are important factors that help consumers identify genuine products, creating a competitive advantage over traditional markets.

Thanks to e-commerce, the province's high-tech agricultural products, from vegetables, tubers, fruits to processed products and OCOP products, are changing the way they approach the market. No longer dependent on traders, each product is identified by images, stories and transparent production processes, meeting the needs of modern customers.

Implementing Decision No. 645/QD-TTg dated May 15, 2020 of the Prime Minister on the master plan for national e-commerce development in the period of 2021-2025, the Provincial People's Committee has developed and implemented the e-commerce development plan for the period of 2021-2025, including promoting support for enterprises to participate in famous platforms, prioritizing agricultural products, processed products, typical products and OCOP of the province.

Through e-commerce platforms, many products have improved in consumption, with orders in many provinces and cities, even in foreign markets.

By the end of the third quarter of 2025, 35 enterprises in the province will be supported to participate in international and domestic e-commerce platforms, 5 enterprises will build standard websites, and 24 enterprises will complete their brand identity according to international standards.

In addition, the Department of Industry and Trade also supports enterprises, cooperatives and production establishments participating in the Long An province e-commerce platform (before the merger) to connect with the merged e-commerce platform of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (sanviet.vn). Up to now, there have been 76 booths with 312 products. This is considered an important factor to help products easily access the market, enhancing reputation in the digital environment.

Many cooperatives and production facilities have noted that selling on e-commerce platforms helps increase transparency, quality control and traceability. At the Viet Safe Vegetable Cooperative (Rach Kien commune), orders from digital platforms increase significantly every day, with the majority of customers coming from Ho Chi Minh City. Information on production processes, certifications and growing area codes are displayed via QR codes, giving buyers more peace of mind.

Not only expanding the domestic market, e-commerce also helps Tay Ninh enterprises reach international customers. Enterprises processing cassava, dried fruits or OCOP products have all begun to receive orders from other countries, helping to increase the value of agricultural products, while affirming local brands in the international market.

Opening up agricultural product consumption

Under the impact of the digital economy, e-commerce is increasingly becoming an important distribution channel in the consumption of agricultural products. With cold logistics, electronic payments and traceability solutions, online transactions are more convenient than ever. The challenge is how farmers, cooperatives and businesses can both standardize production and operate digital stores effectively, exploiting this large market.

Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Dinh Xuan emphasized: "The agricultural sector continues to support enterprises, cooperatives, and farming households to connect and consume agricultural products, link with supermarkets and large stores in and outside the province, and at the same time encourage and promote the introduction of products to e-commerce platforms, focusing on key product groups and OCOP products of the province".

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Xuan said that effective consumption through digital platforms is only sustainable when the products meet standards. Therefore, the industry will focus on supporting production facilities to join in association, forming large raw material areas with growing area codes, meeting domestic and export requirements. When products meet standards and have full traceability, putting them on the market becomes easier, the selling price is better, and consumers have more confidence.

Experts say that the prerequisite for high-tech agricultural products to effectively exploit e-commerce is to standardize the production process, have a growing area code and meet traceability standards. This is the advantage of the group of high-tech products that are developing strongly in Tay Ninh.

The Agriculture sector also plans to organize training courses on digital booth operation skills, online customer care, standardization of product images and stories, and building an ecosystem for digital agricultural product consumption, logistics connection, payment and promotion. The goal is for each cooperative to have at least one digitalized product on the e-commerce platform, each locality to have a typical online agricultural product consumption model and gradually form a modern consumption network associated with digital commerce.

E-commerce is opening up great opportunities for Tay Ninh agricultural products to reach out to larger markets and develop more sustainably. When products are standardized, producers boldly convert, management agencies accompany and e-commerce platforms expand support, local agricultural products have the opportunity to increase value, stabilize output and affirm their brands.

This is not only a trend but has become an inevitable path of modern agriculture, especially with high-tech products - the pride of Tay Ninh today./.
